It's growing on me - it looks much better in black than it does in white as the black tends to disguise the silly squared-off wheel arches and trims. While the 4.4 looks fine in storm-trooper white I have never thought that it really worked in black. The 4.4 looks rather too "Prius" while we actually want the RAV 4 to look rather more "Hilux" - or rather I do at least. I was lucky enough to spend a couple of weeks in Colorado earlier in the year and saw the new RAV everywhere - and it looks just right on a US highway against the backdrop of the Rockies. And, before anyone shouts, no, of course I haven't seen a RAV 4.5 - what I was seeing was one of its American bigger brothers, probably the 4Runner. It seems clear that Toyota are adopting its US 'truck' styling for the RAV which should suit its largest market very well (and we get to like it or lump it!). In terms of size, the longer wheel base will mean that it rides much better on the highway (I mean road) - so it will loose some of the characteristically 'choppy' or 'pitching' ride of earlier RAVs, be less manoeuvrable, and maybe not so effective off-road ... but that's 'progress'. The front is a lot more squared off so I suspect that the reduction in length will come from the nose rather than internal carrying capacity. The slight increase in width is a little more troubling - not an issue at all in the US (it's still a small car there) but UK parking bays and my garage doors aren't getting any wider! Whether you really like it or not, does anyone think that the styling of the 4.5 isn't an improvement over the 4.4? Definitely it's nicer than the 4.4 which didn't have any of the original RAV styling cues, IMHO. In fact, the 4.3 wasn't great either but not as bland as the 4.4. The 4.5seems to hark back to the 4.2 which to my eyes, was always the definitive RAV.

Must admit I wasn't keen on the styling but it has grown on me now with the more rugged looks. I did watch a video on YouTube the other week showing both the petrol and hybrid models which was very good but can't find it now?

Horrible thing. Certainly on my last RAV4...

Sorry Charlie, I agree with the wheel arches, but the rest I like. Self charging, economical and a fair amount of power. I think it's nice that Toyota are finally going a bit brave with the styling, and personally, I am pleased it is a little shorter than the last one.

Ainsley perhaps I’m getting a wee bit jaded with cars and all the bull that goes with it... For me I cannot see anything that presses ant buttons or makes me fancy one .... The other thing is I must admit I just don’t understand hybrids. If there was a diesel AWD and if the looks inspired me then I would be Keef. As it is I’m just not. Again and this is just me I would only consider a change of car if it was equal in size or better still bigger. .. so many here moaned last time the Rav changed about how it was lower and too car like. Yet here Toyota have leant in that direction again yet it’s gone unnoticed.....

The next blog is up: Explore the new 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid: comfort and equipmentAnd for those worried about 'size' while it is a tad shorter than the 4.4 "the load space behind the rear seats has been made larger and more user-friendly, thanks to a fully flat floor and a length extended by 60mm" so it's actually bigger on the inside! (I wonder where I've heard that before?)

I think it looks good. Much nicer than the current car and a massive step up interior wise.
Is it the same car underneath as the new Lexus SUV??
Probably have a test drive at some point but unlikely to change for a while the old 3 is still going strong and the new car will no doubt be ££many.

We still have to wait for UK specifications and prices ... If the past is anything to go on, it will be lower spec'd & higher priced.

The pricing looks realistic and it's good that there is a range of AWD variants. I guess though that it will come with a CVT which will need to be road-tested because some of those systems are crap although the one on the old 4.3 was very good; you couldn't tell it from a trad TC auto. Downers for me are keyless start (I don't see the point in making cars LESS secure in the name of technology) and that bloody electric handbrake - if there was ever a more useless piece of tat, I can't think of it. Apart from the fact that it solves a problem that never existed, it costs a bloody fortune to repair when it fails.

Nearly 37K for the decent spec one ? Hold on while I fall of the sofa laughing.

I'd have said that the spec of even the base car looks pretty good. The pricing looks competitive.
Having said that, I don't believe that a 9-speaker sound system can really be appreciated in a tin box, nor is a black headlining worthy of extra cost. I can live without a panoramic roof although I can see why some people go for them.

As long as you want a hybrid, you are ok... Their answers at the bottom of the page are ridiculous to say the least.
