... And I can't see the point in squared-off wheel arches:
Now THAT looks like it got hit by the Ugly Stick - if the arch joined up to the bottom strip and bumper strip it might be ok-ish, but as it is it looks like a really cheap add-on from another car. That arch thing looks ridiculous.... Why ??

The 4.4 arches look much better in my opinion but you have to see this vehicle with an American eye as that is the target market.
It looks a bit Tonka with the square arches.

I like the 4x4 American market, good chunky looks. As for those arches , if the plastic met the the base of the arch it would complete it. I guess it's an antemp to stop stone damage?
Slightly off topic, but I've just bought a karcher k4 with angled lance so I can get right in those arches😊

I just took a look back at the CarScoops rendering (link in post 1 of this thread): - It is remarkably accurate including detail that it would be impossible to deduce through the wrapping on a spy shot. I guess that this is styling that Toyota are already using in the US but all the same the accuracy is impressive.
- The one key area of difference that I notice is that in the rendering the wheel arch trim is more subtle and complete ...
So, maybe, what we found slightly alarming on first sight we might prefer to what Toyota are actually offering in the US?

It’ll be the same global product. It will just be styled to suite the taste of the biggest market.

Toyota UK are starting to reveal a little more information on the 2019 RAV 4.5: No useful information on model specs and pricing as yet ...

Personally I like the overall look of the 4.5 and am looking forward to seeing it in the metal.

I don't normally name vehicles, but with all those angles, if I ever had one, it would have to be called Kryten or Robert.

Not at all keen to be honest. The dash dials look a bigger mess than in my 4.4.... It’s lost length which is not good for those who like me use all of it and could do with a bit more. The wheel arches look frankly bloody awful..... The front has lost its Toyota identity and looks like modern Ford and they look bloody awful.
Plus no diesel by the look of it.

In adventure spec; I think it looks brilliant and having been through three JLR products; currently drive a Disco 4 (which is great when it works!) I’d consider one of these new RAV’s but will have to try one first.

It's growing on me - it looks much better in black than it does in white as the black tends to disguise the silly squared-off wheel arches and trims. While the 4.4 looks fine in storm-trooper white I have never thought that it really worked in black. The 4.4 looks rather too "Prius" while we actually want the RAV 4 to look rather more "Hilux" - or rather I do at least. I was lucky enough to spend a couple of weeks in Colorado earlier in the year and saw the new RAV everywhere - and it looks just right on a US highway against the backdrop of the Rockies. And, before anyone shouts, no, of course I haven't seen a RAV 4.5 - what I was seeing was one of its American bigger brothers, probably the 4Runner. It seems clear that Toyota are adopting its US 'truck' styling for the RAV which should suit its largest market very well (and we get to like it or lump it!). In terms of size, the longer wheel base will mean that it rides much better on the highway (I mean road) - so it will loose some of the characteristically 'choppy' or 'pitching' ride of earlier RAVs, be less manoeuvrable, and maybe not so effective off-road ... but that's 'progress'. The front is a lot more squared off so I suspect that the reduction in length will come from the nose rather than internal carrying capacity. The slight increase in width is a little more troubling - not an issue at all in the US (it's still a small car there) but UK parking bays and my garage doors aren't getting any wider! Whether you really like it or not, does anyone think that the styling of the 4.5 isn't an improvement over the 4.4?
