You have to think like an American and those shapes appeal to them at the moment. Oh, and while the design team at JLR find the Toyota renderings a hoot, the reliability and warranty teams find them painful for another reason ;-) JLRs build quality and reliability record is up there among the very best and has been since Tata took over. Calling disrepute on that is like saying all Jap cars are c rap like they were in the 70S .. Take a snipe if you like but my point is the supposed Rav 4-5 is incredibly ugly. Not quite the case Charlie, yes they have improved a bit since TATA took control but still a long way to go: www.osv.ltd.uk/how-reliable-are-jaguar/www.independent.co.uk/life-style/motoring/most-reliable-cars-2017-a8029056.htmlThan again, how reliable are surveys? Just glad I don't own a Bentley........... And yes, I agree, that imagining of the 2019 RAV4 is ugly as sin. Let's wait to see what the final incarnation ends up to be.

One hell of a lot. JLR is the biggest success story in motoring in the UK in our times .. Try ordering one and see how long the waiting list is.. Its easy to dig up rubbish about every brand out there. Our discussion can can only be based on what we see now. If a different profile turns up then we can discuss that.

You really shouldn't rise to Mazda turncoat's bait Charlie. Just point out to him in an 2017 Autoexpress survey that out of the 10 ten most reliable cars a Jag XF MK1 came in a 2, RAV 4.4 was 9 and a Mazda was nowhere to be seen. .....oh, hang on JD Power 2017, out of 25 put: LR @ 23 JAG @ 14 Mazda @ 10 Toyota @ 6 .....oh eck What Car out of 32: LR @ 31 JAG @ 26 Mazda @ 16 Toyota @ 3 .....Hm......maybe this approach isn't going well. Just stick to what you fancy. I certainly wouldn't want to work @ JLR, but that's another story and for reasons I won't go into here, but if the products float your boat, fine. . As for spy shots and artists' impressions, most not worth the TFT or LED wear, but that's my opinion.

Don the thread was as far as I can make out and I may be mistaken was about the appearance of the maybe 2018 Rav. My post was made to emphasise how ugly I thought it was by suggesting a manufacturer that make in most peoples opinion good looking cars. I should have realised someone would shoot JLR down on from any angle as per usual. I am always have been and likely always will be a fan of Jaguar cars. So I reserve the right to get just a tiny wee bit pissed of at the continuos knocking.

Have to agree with Charlie that JLR do make good looking motors - they have an effective design/styling team. However, what's lacking is in the technical/engineering/production/testing and quality control areas. It's a real shame but they still have a long way to go to reach a par with Japanese and other Asian companies.

Thier innovation is not that far off take a look at the Pace ... Jags have an identity that our cars or should I say my cars just don’t have. Yes the 4.4 is a Swiss Army knife of a car that is remarkably competent and I cannot fault it as it does everything I currently need from a car except exite. It truly is a dull car. Compitant but dull. Ive had many Jags over the years and would have another in an instant .

Charlie, I agree that if that is the new RAV then it is butt ugly (although I thought that when I first saw the VCR or whatever it’s called and I’ve forgiven it now). However, having spent a good proportion of my life mauling with LRs, I’m programmed to dig in when you or anybody else attempts to mock any Japanese product by pitching them against a JLR product. You might have had good luck with them but I haven’t and that’s what I base my opinion on - not hearsay, not press reviews but experience. For the record, I think that virtually every product that comes out of Halewood is gorgeous both inside and mainly out. I also know for a fact that the LRs are astonishing off road and the Js are on road. I’d love to be patriotic but I simply daren't until I’m more confident about whether it will bend me over and give me a good seeing to. It’s not personal and I’m not even trying to wind you up. If if I was going to do that I’d challenge you to try not to get thrashed in a variety of martial arts fights but I can’t with a bad arm.

There are certain brands which you would love to have BUT only as a company car where it really doesn't matter if (when!) it breaks down. What those brands are vary depending on the individual. I know what mine are

If you look at the picture below left of the silhouette you can see the new car. It’s really a 4.4.5 rather then a new car.

Sorry Charlie, but that picture is of the 4.4 and is a link to an article of the launch of the hybrid in 2015. We still need to wait to see the shape of the 4.5 ... which will be new since it's based on on "Toyota’s New Global Architecture" rather than the current RAV platform.
