Rust??

Finally got to talk to the service manager who has now told me that the Yaris has got to be taken to their repair centre which is where the Blue Rav was repaired so local to us, where the assessor there will look at the rust, send the Toyota branch the quote who will then forward it to the main Toyota HQ who will make the decision whether to fix it or not and there is no guarantee that it will be fixed as it depends if it is a manufacturing fault or the owners??

Took the Yaris along yesterday morning to the body repair shop for them to have a look at the rust issue and the bloke there spotted more rust spots coming through in the same area around the tailgate area plus the rust round the reverse camera has got worse since I looked at it last. He took measurements of the paint thickness and from what I saw it was ranging from 162 upto 174?? I asked if that was good and he just said that the paint around the tailgate inner area is never as thick as say the doors and said that it is a manufacturing fault so we should get it repaired with a complete strip off of the tailgate area, so will see what Toyota say when they get his report.

Surely this is about the dealer looking after you the customer and what is wrong or right and the quality of the vehicle they sold you It’s defective so bloody well repair the thing. Sorry Paul me ole mucker your approach is wrong. I would have had that thing soreyed in one visit one way or another.

Well Charlie apparently there is a procedure that we and they must follow to get these jobs/repairs done which we are doing so I can't see how else we could get it fixed. I would love to have those powers of persuasion that you and others seem to possess to get things done but alas it seems I don't as I have tried in the past and got me nowhere

So while we were at Toyota this morning with the Rav I got to see the service manager and asked how our complaint was going to which he said that he hadn't heard from the repair place yet so he would chase it up, and we was reminded that it can go one of three ways, yes they will do it, no they won't do it or we can sort summat out, then he started to go on saying that they don't know if the car had been tampered with since it had been sold from new, ie the rusting bolts were taken out and the tailgate adjusted??? So we both got the feeling that they were looking at an excuse not to fix the rust issue even though the repair bloke had said no extra paint had been added so at this moment in time we are not feeling confident.

Have you had a look at similar cars on the used car lot Paul? I believe you mentioned at some point earlier that this was a known issue. Would be interesting if you could point out the same thing on cars they have for sale.

That did cross my mind David while we were there but they only had one 63 model there the rest were newer models and the way the conversation was going if we had looked and all were rust free it wouldn't have looked good for us, if you see what I mean, so will wait and see what their decision will be regarding ours.

then he started to go on saying that they don't know if the car had been tampered with since it had been sold from new, ie the rusting bolts were taken out and the tailgate adjusted??? Complete bollocks IMHO!! The car was sold to you as an Approved Toyota Used Vehicle, right? That being the case, it is up to the dealer to check it thoroughly beforehand and rectify any faults before they retail it. Tell the scrote to shove that argument and just fix the bloody car!!!!!!!

( ) You all know that I am a pleasant, unassuming, quiet individual with no real hang-ups about anything . However the response that Paul got from that guy just pisses me right off! If that was his Toyota dealer then they are a bloody disgrace. Maybe I've been spoiled but my Mr.T in Stoke has never really put a foot wrong in all my dealings with them. Ditto the Mr.T in Loghborough before that. An Approved Toyota is just that - no arguments. Barstools!!!!!

I stopped using RRG when they wanted to charge me ( if I remember the figure correctly! ) £270 for changing the rear Q links. It took me 1.5hrs and cost £35 in parts They said they needed to dismantle the rear suspension to change them. Yeah, right!

I've used RRG in Altricham and Salford Quays in the past and they were OK but only used them because of work locations at those times. My usual Mr.T is Pinkstones in Stoke and I've dealt with them over the years with a number of different Toyotas and they've always been first-class. My daughter has a 12-reg Aygo on extended warranty and service plan with them and, so far, they've been great. Over the years I've got to know the service team rather well and maybe that makes a difference - they have always gone the extra mile for us in the past.
I don't use 'em anymore because we've got the two Saabs now but I do travel to L/pool to Sarbkar who are Saab independent specialists and bloody good. Their customer service is probably the best I've come across in 40-odd years.

I've found a Toyota independent not far from me who is excellent and amazingly quick at jobs.
