So, what's everyone's feeling on electric vehicles??
The only person I know who runs one is my mum (so I know her quite well!!) and when I was round for diner last night she tells me she's just ordered her second - totally sold by the tech/ownership.
I've borrowed the current (i3) car on a couple of occasions and it is a decent drive (bit choppy the ride, but so are many BMs, and the back doors are a pain but otherwise a nice place to be). Cost me less than 3 quid to fully charge and will beat anything off the lights.
I only work 9 miles from home and tbh it has got me wondering. But the choice is still fairly limited and the £cost still fairly high.
Like anything I suppose pros and cons, but would ya??

I’ve been reading up about them and bought a magazine on the models available, from what I’ve read there a 5 charging plugs fitted to EV vehicles so what happens if you say buy a Nissan and fit a charging point at home , then change to another vehicle a few years later and it has a different plug . Yes there could be adapters etc . Then there a nowhere near enough charging points out in the public domain , and I read today in the news that the Government have just realised they going to lose out billions on road tax so at some point they will start to charge EV owners to use the roads.

Not at the moment, as i do need the car to be abkr to travel a distance (and also tow...). They are expensive and their price drops faster than a stone in the sea, with the chance of needing to replace battery pack (yes. I know some only 'lease' the battery). If i had only short trips, maybe as a second car The Caravan club tested the Jaguar all electric, with allowed towing weight of 750kg, and a range of 100 miles towing... good for nothing IMHO.

Well , a stepping stone is my Yaris hybrid. After driving it for 3k miles now.
The battery could be bigger , the elec motor could be bigger too.
If I really feather that accelerator it'l go for perhaps a mile on electric.
If I'm in a hurry,engine cuts in in literally 2 - 3 seconds.
Put the heater on first thing in morning to clear windows , no electric... only petrol engine.
But pulling away from lights... Foot to floor.. Wow , it just goes - instant torque all the way to full speed.
I guess full EV is the next step.. hmm.

Out in the sticks EVs are not there yet. Big hills and distances would kill the battery.
I’ve heard it said often that the pollution caused by the battery production is more than a sensible car would ever produce. Plus batteries may need replacing and they are super expensive. So expensive the cars could be scrapped way before their lifespan is up and the pollution cycle rolls again.
Plus that are Avery expensive.
If you want to run round for pennies get a small car. My IQ runs on fumes. Not sure if I ever mentioned that......

Halfway house for me, with the Mini Countryman All4 PHEV getting 20 Miles from the battery, which is a normal days running for me, and with the Octopus GO electricity tariff it only costs me 40p to charge it at home. It's big enough to get my road bike in, but not the 29er without dropping the front wheel, and the handlebars are a bit of a PITA. Switching from electric to petrol is seamless, and vice versa, Gearbox has taken a lot of getting used to being my first Auto box, it's not what I would describe as 'Smooth'. Gave myself a scare on as couple of occasions when I manually switched from Petrol to full EV on a abend, which goes from FWD to RWD, gives you a little kick of oversteer which if you are not expecting it EEK! I'm a convert, Through our company leasing scheme there is the possibility of a Tesla Model 3 for around £380 a month, which is seriously tempting ... but then reality bites and I know I can't get out of the thing ... Now the Model X though ... Battery technology is improving all the time, and I know that there is that worry of replacing them if required. Mitsubishi Warrant the battery back for 8 Years, Toyota 7, I'm not sure about other manufacturers. There was a report recently that someone had 'found' an original Tesla Roadster in a barn in the US, that would still charge to 85% of the battery capacity after 15 Years of being switched off, and stood there. Charging infrastructure is hit or miss but more Superchargers (Tesla) are being fitted daily. It's easy to buy a new cable should you change your car (but Budget for up to £250 for one). It's one of those "Do I go for a tethered, or Untethered charge point" at home" If I do then I have to get a cable as the Mini doesn't come with one, I did get a 3 pin plug charger though and have a convenient socket, but I can't use other public charge points

Good points fellas. Good points
I'm umming and ahhing at the moment. Lost the Evoque to the misses so driving the CX-5 and tbh its a nice car but not really my cup of tea. The i3 is on a good deal (its not bought, you'd be mad to actually buy an EV I recon). Going to borrow it for the week next week and see how I get on. It's a nice spec car, not even a year old and we have 2 chargers (and no-one with an EV!!) at work. Think it might be a bit too small though and always worried about the - what if I scratch it - drama of a lease.
Picking a daily driver is hard. Fun car, easy. Daily, nightmare, got too tick so many boxes.

My son has an EV, it’s a Kia Soul and yes I know it’s not to everyone’s taste. It has a range of about 100 miles depending on the time of year and one charge does him 2 round trips to work and costs about £1.20 to charge. He leased the car and his only regret is it’s only for 2 years and it’s going back next June.
Hope it helps Keith

I've been thinking about one of these for some time and the Cube looks like very good value. I also have an offer for a new front ( motorised ) wheel and battery for my folder for just under £400. I think that I'll spend a few hours at the shop in York which specialises in electric bikes before making the decision. Can you post your impressions when you've had a chance to ride it a bit? I think I'd find that very helpful.

Went out on it yesterday I logged over 26 miles but there was at least another 5-6 that wasn't logged including 2 climbs, I stopped to talk to somebody & pressed the pause button on the Garmin & then forgot to start it again Doh! Had the battery fully charged on 5 bars, when I got back I still had 4 bars, I was riding it quite a bit of the time with the motor in the off position & only putting it on when I felt I needed the assistance, I'm very impressed with it. I bought to to be able to commute 22.5 miles each way to work, it was too much for me on a on assisted bike but come the better weather I think I'll be okay on this.
As to price the list is an eye watering (well for me at least) £1899 I went to leisurebikes in Hemel Hempstead as they would do it for £1614 it was worth the £30 diesel to fetch it.

Looks very nice! At 45 miles a day i would worry at other parts beside the bike... we did once about 50miles on the tandem, but could not even look at it the next day... I think prices of electric bike came down. When we looked at the tandem we also looked at ebikes, but decided that as long as we can do this without 'assistance' we will not get ebike. The etandem is north of 6k...

I'd only be doing the 45 miles occasionally, I intend to train in then ride home as I do now the MTB, it's just that bit too far to be comfortable with over 1500 feet of climbing, the other reason is the time it would take to do both journeys
