Just bought a Mk3 SR D-Cat Auto. 2011, 34k miles and lovely condition. Just been a few rides so far and still getting used to auto but in general, loving the car. Trying my best to come to terms with all the features and how to use them. Of course, the owner's manual doesn't help. I'm a professional technical writer (electronics industry) by trade and talk about making simple things longwinded, ambiguous and frankly, poor English?!! And why does it take 80 pages to cover keys and doors?!! So much of it seems to be repetition!! Anyway, rant over.. Just a couple of questions for now, there will doubtless be more. 1) The satellite/audio system display drops brightness when I switch on the side lights for daylight use. Obviously, this is fair enough when it gets a bit dark, but for daylight use I need the display to be full brightness. Can this be achieved? 2) The car has the easy start system. When I'm filling up with fuel, someone could jump in the car and drive off as I am standing by the car with the 'key' in my pocket - it's a proximity thing. How can I secure the car in this situation? Thanks.

Great car but would benefit from the Style pack !!!
Unless your keys are in the car the engine will not start.
When leaving the car to go and pay in the garage just touch the sensor on the top of the door handle to lock the car. No need to take the keys out of your sky rocket 👍👍

1) The audio/sat nav is probably of the touch and go vintage. Press Setup button -> then touch "display". With the lights on, there should be a "day mode" option appear. 2) As Mr CF says, the vehicle can make a distinction between:

I had an 11 plate 2.2SR as well for around 18 months (Bought as a 50th Birthday Pressie to myself in Dec 2011, stolen in July 2013). Found it a lovely car but surprisingly uneconomical at around 32 MPG - which seems to be typical for this model (the RAV 4.4 Auto with the same engine is much better). The Style Pack suits the car very well and fitting Mud Flaps is a worthwhile upgrade as well.

Found it a lovely car but surprisingly uneconomical at around 32 MPG - which seems to be typical for this model (the RAV 4.4 Auto with the same engine is much better). The Style Pack suits the car very well and fitting Mud Flaps is a worthwhile upgrade as well. First signs are that I'm getting around 39-40 mpg for mixed use. I am soft with the right foot though. I can't see the point in hard acceleration. You get to your destination just as quick with the roads being as they are these days. I was getting around 41-42 mpg from my RAV4.2 2.0 for similar usage, and up to 50 on long journeys. My front guard is on its way but not sure about side steps yet. On my 4.2 I had front guard, side steps and mudguards and it looked great. But I'm taking my time, not rushing into things. The one thing with side steps is that you loose some ground clearance. That may or may not be an issue to different people. If it's a 'city car' then not, but if you use it off road as I sometimes do, then I'd hate to have a rock damage a side step or even ground me! Got any photos of yours with the style pack?!

I've never got the kind of economy some do, but I don't have a heavy right foot either. This was my 4.3SR shortly after I bought it: RAV4.3 2.2 DCAT SR by David, on Flickr So has the Front Bar, Side Steps, Chrome Rear Bumper Protector and I added on the black Roof Rails as well Side View a couple of weeks later RAV43-2011SR-WinterWheels2 by David, on Flickr (This is how Big Kev always saw my car )

Official figures for the SR (150) are 39.2 mpg. "Real MPG" figures from Honest John suggest somewhere between 26.0–36.9 mpg with an average of 32.0 mpg (consistent with Hoovie's experience). If you care about the actual consumption it is wise to run some brim-to-brim numbers rather than just trust the on-board computer. By comparison, the official figures for the 150 bhp diesel engine with an auto box in a 4.4 are 42.2 mpg (so a little bit better) but the "Real MPG" figures suggest somewhere between 26.0–39.0 mpg with an average of 34.1 mpg. I don't entirely trust the Honest John figures - they are after all gathered via a "popular vote" rather than scientific study - but they are at least based on "real world" experience even if drawn from an unreliable source. Over 55k miles mine has returned a shade under 38 mpg ...

Interestingly, the side steps on the 4.3 don't seem to drop as low as they did on my 4.2 that stole quite a bit of ground clearance. Would I be correct in saying that the 4.3 side steps don't make much difference to ground clearance? So I may well get them in the not too distant future.

If I was asked for any cons on my 2011 D-Cat SR Auto, it would have to be the fuel economy, if I did more research at the time of purchase, I would have probably went for a petrol. Only other one is having no space saver wheel, but that's about it !!
You have a good low mileage car, enjoy it.
