Well that's something new I've just learned, I didn't know Rav4's ran on run flat tyres. They don't ... any more. Toyota introduced the BSR "run flat" system on the T180 and SR180 models of the RAV4.3 so that they could remove the rear mounted spare. The RAV was to only vehicle ever to use the system and it was discontinue before the introduction of the RAV 4.4. 4.4s have either a space saver spare or a bottle of gunk and inflator system. Of course an owner if they knew what that symbol meant ( unlikely ) might think the car is runflat equipped when of course it would not. My earlier post referred to the fact that that particular 4.4 should NOT have been running on those tyres. It is quite acceptable to run those tyres on conventional wheels. The runflat part consisted of a heavy thick rubber ring fixed to the rim itself not to the tyres. The Runflat tyres had the ability to be stretched over those rings without tearing. But that required heavy radial belting which made the tyres stiff and heavy. But they could be fitted to a conventional wheel with no issues. Not a good idea but acceptable.. i made a point above that they may be old stock but thinking about it they must surely be still made for the T180s and SRs that are still running the BSR set up. I can just imagine an owner enquiring about tyres at a Toyota dealer and them looking up the correct fitment and so on ant thinking they have found exactly the right tyre.

Hi guys, just a quick update. After much thought I've decided to buy a Yaris. Wash my mouth out with soap. 😀 As I've said I only drive my car around town and a Rav4 does not really fit the bill. It was more of what I wanted than what I needed. Plus, I didn't want to spend the money to get a hybrid model. So I bought an 18 plate Icon tech with 4000 on the clock for £14200, it fits the bill and the budget. I'm picking it up tomorrow, we'll be a two Yaris household. Thanks for all your help over the past few weeks.
