I want to buy a Rav 4 and my budget ia £15000. The only criteria is that it must be an automatic. My budget is £15000, what should I be looking for in that price range? Any advice/comments will be appreciated.

You must have a little more in your criteria set beyond RAV4 Auto and I'm sure that you'll have looked on Autotrader as I did just now. Toyota are introducing a new model this year - known colloquially as the RAV 4.5 and you won't get one of those within your budget ... The RAV 4.4 was available between 2012 and 2018 - the best option would probably be a hybrid but you won't find one within budget. Similarly, I couldn't find a petrol auto within you budget however the D-CAT diesels are in plentiful supply. So based on the criteria you have given I'd go for a RAV 4.4 diesel auto - its goes adequately / well, the engine and transmission suit the car and it's highly reliable - oh, and I have one bought from new. Second-hand they strike me as ridiculously good value - I may be a little biased. (But then you will become the hated driver of a diabolical diesel!) Otherwise you are looking at older cars - the RAV 4.3 shape up to 2012. At that age, the petrol auto is very well regarded and well within your budget ...

With your budget i'd get a last of the line, hi spec, low miles, FSH mk3 + plenty change.
I'm biased but the mk4 has never really been my cup of tea. Suppose you'd have to have a drive. Remember many mk4s are only FWD.
Whatever you choose they do seem very reliable. I'm at nearly 100k miles now and nothing other than standard servicing.
Oh, ill admit the side hinged rear door on the mk3 is a pain. Whoever came up with that idea!!

... Remember many mk4s are only FWD ... AFAIK all 4.4 autos are AWD. There again, our new friend hasn't specified that he wants 'wheels' let alone how many of them he wants driven ...

Thanks for the advice every one. Auto Rav4's are thin on the ground here, so I may have to wait a while for the right one to come along.

Trouble is you are just coming into 4x4 in great demand season and they are selling like hot cakes, I was watching a few 2016 Rav4 models on my auto trader app and all sold once snow was mentioned in the news . I feel you’re going to have trouble finding one unless you change to 2011/2012 spec models for your budget 👍🏻👍🏻

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. It would appear that I have more demands than I thought. I want to buy as new as possible because because I think this will probably be the last car I buy.
Because of the scarcity, I'm going to look at a manual 16 plate for £14500 tomorrow. It will give me an idea of driving manual cars again. Thanks again for all your help.

Thanks for the advice every one. Auto Rav4's are thin on the ground here, so I may have to wait a while for the right one to come along. Where’s round here The 4.4 Auto is a brilliant all round package. The diesel is excellent and if it bothers you it’s very clean.. Gearboxes are conventional torque converter 6 speed auto with Eco mode and Sport Mode in addition to the default mode. So three to choose from. Paddle shift is standard on this option.30 to 38 MPG Depending on driving style. Space inside is far superior to the previous generation. Dash panels functional with everything you need but lacks style and flair. Ride comfort and suspension very good but sprung slightly firm for very decent cornering, Very good intelligent AWD set up that really does work and has been tested well by me in poor conditions. The electronics are second to no AWD vehicle. A very competent spacious car. One of the best tools I’ve ever owned but it’s as dull as dish water. The top model Invincible lacks equipment. Navigation for a start. (600 quid option) Side steps and fancy front bumper called Style pack (900 quid option) Sunroof which is ultra ultra rare is another 600 of you finest English pounds. The list goes on........ Again excellent cars and great tools but lacking kit and dull. Still the best SUV for the money.

Hi, and welcome, it will give you an idea but if you like autos I would wait for one to turn up. Unless it’s a sports car I would only buy an auto these days! Good luck with your search.

Hi Charlie, thanks for the welcome and advice. I never went to view the Manual today, the weather was awful. My wife thinks I should wait for an auto to come along, I think I'll take hers and your advice. I'm in Liverpool and Honiton is a bit far to go, Paulus.
