Just a bit on insurance - Adrian Flux offered me insurance on one of my RAVs that was off the road - basically insuring it for loss/theft/damage whilst being stored off road. The other thought I had is with online insurance, some of them allow you to change cars free so you could have 1 policy and swap insurance back and forward as needed- just need to co-ordinate with RFL then. I've 2 NCD current but 1 may run out soon as I'm down to one car now. Thats a nice looking 3 door - Cheers Bothy To be honest i'm fed up dealing with talking to car insurance companies so will just stick to what we have for now, no doubt when it comes to renewal next year the price will have gone through the roof again so will start the process of finding another cheaper policy if Mrs P decides to keep the Rav. Here's an interesting possibility for insurance: www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-45758926

Well done David - just logged on to link the same article! It ought to at least partially solve Pauls difficulty! I did do one of the Cuvva quotes that Ash had mentioned earlier and was working out expensive per month for the Rav think it was summat like £158pm, well 28 days.

Adrian Flux did my fire engine insurance @ £180 pa but as it was due this month, shopped around and got better cover for £80 ! Its just the time it takes faffing around with confirming all the details.

Last time I asked AF for a quote I got sent over 30 envelopes through the post with about 20 pages in each of em, and again were expensive. I've spent whole days on the phone to insurance companies in the past trying to find a cheap-ish car insurance and so far even upto today haven't succeeded and have never been able to get a cheaper quote for a renwa; from an existing company, even companies who we know give cheaper ins when I phone or Mrs P phoned it works out expensive. We live in a decent-ish area the cars in the garage over night, full NCD and do low miles so don't know why they always work out expensive?? Perhaps I should say we live in a carp area, the cars parked on the street over night, do high mileage and have no NCD

Would it be worth trying classic insurance? I’m paying a touch over £100 for the cortina with 5000 miles per annum. Unlikely it would ever do that as it’s just say in garage

Is the Rav your 3rd car now? If you both have individual policies and are additional drivers on each other’s policy some companies will take an additional driver as earning NCB. The reason I ask is a few years ago we bought a little run around and they wouldn’t let me use the NCB off my Fav and said the same as what you were told but then they took it into account off the wife’s policy and me being an additional driver they allowed to use that as NCB. As you’ve said though it is a money making scam. It’s a shame Cuvva didn’t work out for you. I insured myself on my nieces Fiesta using cuvva for 2 days and it cost me £23 which wasn’t bad at all

The only reason I mentioned it was because of this article I read www.uswitch.com/car-insurance/car-insurance-is-your-old-banger-actually-a-classic/
