Just found THIS from the old forum and a reoly from Don Anchorman so it doesn't sound too bad if our Rav is the same issue??

Well I managed to get meself under the Rav this morning after I found out my old ramps, to have a closer look at the leak and seems it's not leaking as I thought, oops When I put it on the ramps there was a load of water that run down the left side of the chassis from somewhere and noticed a drip of water round by the supposed leak so reversed the Rav out the garage to see if what I thought was an oil leak yesterday was there but there was nothing so it must have been water that leaked down from somewhere?? While underneath I noticed that the back end of the sump was also wet with oil but again couldn't see where this would be coming from so could be an oil spill while topping up?? Also noticed that the handbrake needs adjusting or replacing as it just about held the Rav on the ramps??

Well done for tackling the investigation at this time of year Could it be the condensate from the Aircon system? Mine seems to produce gallons of it at times?

I was going to suggest wiping the part down & seeing it it returns, but you look to have sorted it

Cheers Chris :TU: That I don't know i'm just relieved it's not the seal so will wait now till the experts at Toyota put it through the MOT later this month, but will try to get my mechy mate to look at it before then.

That's what I was gonna do P but that small box which I thought was covered in fresh oil is like an hardened grease packed round it, so not sure whether it's supposed to be there??

Well folks I thought I would have a go at adjusting the handbrake so had a quick google about and found a video on YT and seemed pretty straight forward even for me, so I had a bash at it and i'm glad to say I did it, :TU: well I hope I have. The handbrake was pulling up eleven clicks so have now got it to seven, think the recommended amount is 6-8, but now the battery is flat so is on charge

You learn a lot from trying, at least I have! Did you have to do the drum adjustments as well as the cable adjustment inside the car?

I might be wide of the mark here Jim. My 4.3 has the drums-in-the-disk handbrake arrangement, Thinking about it, Paul has a late 4.2 three door which may well be disks only. I've never worked on a 4.2 so I'm not sure. With the 4.3 to do a full handbrake adjustment you slack off the cable at the lever, adjust the shoes in the drums through the "hole in the drum" and then readjust the cable. It's a good system except for the aluminium cable ends which corrode where they interface with the steel backplates. I've had to replace both cables ( one each side ) on mine, but it's not hard.
Paul, if yours is a disk based handbrake, please accept my apologies.

Hi Jim. There are discs at the back but also looks like a drum as well so would it have disc and drum brakes? I'll try and grab a piccy later.

Cheers Bob :TU: This is a heavy duty battery suitable for diesels it says and the make is Platinum if that means anything. I know on the old forum there were posts about putting a Diesel battery on the petrol engined Ravs but this one is smallish and fits easily into it's compartment where as I believe the Diesel ones were bigger and just about fitted in the compartment??
