Shouldn't have any drums; they're discs at the back or at least all mine were?
I might be wide of the mark here Jim. My 4.3 has the drums-in-the-disk handbrake arrangement, Thinking about it, Paul has a late 4.2 three door which may well be disks only. I've never worked on a 4.2 so I'm not sure. With the 4.3 to do a full handbrake adjustment you slack off the cable at the lever, adjust the shoes in the drums through the "hole in the drum" and then readjust the cable. It's a good system except for the aluminium cable ends which corrode where they interface with the steel backplates. I've had to replace both cables ( one each side ) on mine, but it's not hard.
Paul, if yours is a disk based handbrake, please accept my apologies. No problem Chris I think you may be right though  So the brakes for the handbrake aren't the ones I can see on the disc, those are in the drum and need adjusting separately??

Just found another one of Dons how to's HERE and seems that the cable can be adjusted by itself without any need to adjust the drum brakes? I thought tightening the cable up was to take any slack out of the cable as it may be stretched and wouldn't interfere with the drum brakes, is this correct?? Because the battery was flat I did manage to push the Rav back and forth to see if the drum brakes had tightened against the drum but it was moving freely. I suppose I should take the wheels off and see if there is any rubbing??

Your rear brakes are indeed the "shoe in drum behind the disc" type Paul........you have achieved that what which you set oot tae dae, and rendered handbrake much more effective.
Sortificated...... :TU:

Cheers Bob This is a heavy duty battery suitable for diesels it says and the make is Platinum if that means anything. I know on the old forum there were posts about putting a Diesel battery on the petrol engined Ravs but this one is smallish and fits easily into it's compartment where as I believe the Diesel ones were bigger and just about fitted in the compartment?? The petrol 4.2s had dinky batteries but they did the job. Our original RAV's battery lasted 9 years. I only replaced it because I didn't feel it would cope with another severe winter after the two we'd had previously.

OK Jim I will see how it goes once it's been charged as it only went flat due to the Rav not been on the road now for twelve days but it will have it's first venture out with us tomorrow  :TU:

Just a bit on insurance - Adrian Flux offered me insurance on one of my RAVs that was off the road - basically insuring it for loss/theft/damage whilst being stored off road. The other thought I had is with online insurance, some of them allow you to change cars free so you could have 1 policy and swap insurance back and forward as needed- just need to co-ordinate with RFL then. I've 2 NCD current but 1 may run out soon as I'm down to one car now.
Thats a nice looking 3 door -
