Well after taking the Rav back to the repair garage this morning and us having a bit of a rant at the bloke in charge of repairs who had just came back off his hols so knew nowt about what was happening we decided to go to our local Toyota and see what they had in of interest for us and Mrs P really liked a Hybrid Yaris they had and it had all she was looking for in the Rav mainly automatic, satnav, reversing camera, keyless entry/start, and no road tax It's the 1.5 Excel with 16" alloys and just over 12k on the clock, one lady owner. So we went for a test drive in it and it was really nice and she is now tempted to go for it even leaving a deposit on it while we have a long hard think about it over night. It's a big step down from the Rav she has been driving for the last seven or eight years but it is summat we've been looking at lately to do and having the Hybrid Rav for the last two weeks has sort of swayed us. Downside is it won't be able to have a towbar fitted for the small trailer I have to pick up logs for my turning and no four wheel drive which isn't an issue now as Mrs P works closer to home and is in walking distance if necessary. So would just like to hear your thoughts on the Hybrid and the Yaris.

It depends what you want... I had a loan Yaris from the garage with the 1.5 engine (not hybrid, but same engine i was told). The engine is tuned for economy, not performance, and it shows. I thought there was a smaller engine there... If you consider motorway travel, suggest you try it on a motorway. If mostly for local journeys than it is excellent. If you need to carry logs from time to time, a separate old small van? Just a thought.

All depends on how many logs you fetch at at time Paul.

Thanks for the replies folks :TU: Some good and not so good reviews there Bob but Mrs P won't be using it as a sports car so I think it will be ideal for her. I'd say 95% of her driving is now local mainly to and from work which is about three miles now and doesn't get much above 30mph so again this Yaris is suited. I have a plentiful supply of logs at the moment to last me but you never know what I get offered which is where the trailer comes in useful but as you say David it would just mean more trips Charlie it just so happens that it is not red but silver though they do have a red one in on a 15 plate. Jase it is a nice comfy little car and felt nippy to me as I sat in the back :TU: and I felt I could get in and out of it with no issues as I suffer with my back and some cars I find really difficult to get in and out of

We had a MK1 Yaris with dealer-fitted bodykit and an autobox. Lovely, lovely little car. We'd still have it if we hadn't owned it in France and the steering wheel was on the wrong side for continuous UK use. My sister-in-law has a Mk2 and wouldn't change it for anything else. :TU: :TU:

I had a Yaris hybrid as a loan car for a couple of days while the RAV was in dock. It is a brilliant car on the "urban cycle" - quicker off the mark than the RAV so that you can pull out of junctions and onto roundabouts with confidence and, obviously, that much more manoeuvrable. It limitations do become more apparent on the "extra urban cycle" as you become increasingly reliant on the petrol engine where diesel driver will notice particularly that it revs far higher and accelerates rather more slowly than the RAV, but, to be fair, it does get to motorway speeds and stay there!
I'd choose my RAV any day for a longer cross country or motorway journey but I'd more than happily switch to a Yaris hybrid for shorter journeys and getting around town.

Well folks we went along this morning to look at the Yaris again and asked if it could be taken down the motorway as we were concerned about the noise at higher speed, to which they obliged and I must say that it was no noisier than the Rav in fact i'd say it was quieter at 65mph. He showed us the kick down where the engine revs away until you reach the speed you want, summat to do with the battery?? When we got back we talked more about the PX of the Rav and managed to get another £200 from them which we were happy with, a set of mats and an extra twelve months warranty so two years, even though there is still a year left of the original warranty left, so we decided to go for it and we should be able to pick it up next week some time We feel sad about parting with the Rav as it has served us well and owes us nothing but feel it is time we had a more modern economical car and hope the Yaris will be ok. First piccys of the Yaris with a happy Mrs P inside

Very nice Paul :TU: I think you may be needing to get a barrow for those logs - I doubt Mrs P will be allowing any in that
