as an aside, my 2004 Toyota Shrouds were totally shot like pauls were, however I didn't replace them.
When I went to do some brake refresh/renovation on my 2000 VW I decided to get new dust shrouds for that vehicle as they cost about £14 each IIRC (and I assumed a similar situation). But when I examined them after removing the discs they were still in near-perfect condition so there was no point changing them of course.
How does one vehicle manufacturer manage to make a part last well in excess of 15 years, but essentially the same part, doing the same passive role from another fall apart within 10 years? (and also sell it at a quarter the price to boot!)

Mrs P wanted them/it replacing as she now seems committed to the Rav having come this far with it, she likes it that much, even though money is been spent on it but how far do you go replacing parts that are expensive.

Found THIS video on replacing the front discs and you can see the dust shroud. Is it just the two or maybe three bolts that you can see holding the shroud on, also thought while the disc is off to replace them both with the new ones I have?

OK so the front shroud was fitted a few weeks ago now but Mrs P came home last night saying she could hear a rattling scraping noise from the back so today I looked at the dust shrouds as I knew they were bad and sure enough the passenger side one is now loose and rattling, think it's been held on by one bolt from what I can feel, and having got a price from Kingo for new ones there's no way they'll be replaced until I saw on an older thread on the other forum saying that the MOT has now been changed and that the rear shrouds do come under the MOT. So can anyone shed any light on that, will they be failed on the MOT or not??

The way I see the mot regulations is....if it’s a rusty back plate supporting a wheel cylinder (brake shoes ) then it’s a fail but can’t see any regulations on rusty disc guards .

Cheers Kev :TU: This is the offending piece of rust that I managed to get off earlier with a little gentle persuasion. The other side seems ok still for now but should I get it off anyway do you think or leave it till it's ready to fall off??

I would say if it’s secure after a prod and a poke leave it alone 👍🏻...but if it was me I’d like it to look the same both sides 😉

Coming back from shopping earlier today when we had a bang bump bump bump all along the underside of the Rav and Mrs P said she saw summat in the rear view mirror in the road so turned around and found this part which looks like the front brake dust shroud. I believe that this part is prone to rusting like this and they were picked up on the health check and MOT but didn't think they would be this bad assuming the other side is the same. So do they need replacing and do we need genuine Toyota ones? At least the label stayed on Has anyone thought of trying to source second hand ones from a country that doesn't pile tons of salt on the road, like Australia or parts of America? I realise that there might diferences in the model that would need to be verified first. Also shipping but if you are not in a hurry i am sure it is possible to find low cost shipping? I know we have at least 1 member from new Zealand are there any from Australia? Dave

I did find THIS place a while ago but wasn't sure if overseas parts would fit UK Ravs??
