......finally gave up the ghost. Being replaced next week by a Hella one in local trusted indie garage at total cost of £400.00 inc.VAT. Not bad as Toyota garage in Elgin quoted £600.00 this time last year when they recharged it, THEN told me it had a miniscule leak. Leak has become worse and failed the vacuum test they carry out pre. regassing it. No complaints......apart from genuine consumables, this is first actual repair since I drove from dealer new in 9/2012......called luck I repeat......

Only 41k chuck.......both Toyota AND the indie said it was a strange failure, but not unknown. Audi mechanic is a fellow dog walker......he is doing two a week across the model range he tells me, some a lot younger than mine, some within warranty. Still maintain cars are SO down to luck muckeroo.

I wouldn’t have expected that part to fail ! It'll be a beancounter problem, using cheaper inferior parts to keep the profit margins up.

Just remembered what Toyota man said.......”Would be £600.00 sir, but we are sure due to age and service history of car we could get Toyota to contribute and get it nearer £450.00.....” This makes me think Phaets is right, and these HAVE caused problems. Anyway, that was a year ago, so maybe not relevant noo......£400.00 seems fair, albeit the part is short of £120.00.....lotsa labour.

Money well spent young man 😉 Must concurify, Boab, and delighted to report the initial icy blast has now settled down to sumfink more akin to the normal nice Toyota gentler air conditioning. Had a succession of Passats whilst working and those bliddy things were bordering on unhealthily cold. Could hang a wet duffle coat on ma nipples after a long drive.....!!
