Good photo Jamie. Can you come round the side and let me see the coolant? This was before I took it to Toyota, you can't really see the colour change , but it was definatley much darker.... it's annoying but it really started to worry me then. But now it's back to normal level and pink....

This is how Toyota left it last Tuesday.

Did it mibeez go a DARKER PINK, because they added straight coolant to a weakened pink mix....?

Did it mibeez go a DARKER PINK, because they added straight coolant to a weakened pink mix....? It went that dark kev I thought it had either oil or exhaust smoke in it. Contaminating it. That was before they examined it. Now it looks normal.

Is it doing anything else like overheating?

Is it doing anything else like overheating? Nothing at all Don , nothing. The guage stays at half way once it's got there. The heater works fine; cold , warm & hot. The only thing it's doing is releasing the splatterings of coolant from the cap and spout. Exactly as the photos show. It's why I've been driving it around for 6 months like it.... seems fine. It's only when the coolant colour went darker last week I thought I'd better report it to Toyota. I just keep an eye on it.... weekly , on long journeys - daily ! But.... it shouldn't do it. I've even considered somehow mounting a camera under the bonnet to film it whilst driving.

Granted I’m looking at photos but I can’t see the coolant is darker. The 150s always looked darker than previous models which were, well pinker. I can tell you that with the engine idling you will see coolant absolutely hammering through that top pipe back into the tank - that is normal. When you said darker, I thought you meant turning grey/black.
So when Toyota filled it the other day, was the engine stone cold? What happens if you don’t top it up but leave it where it is? Has anybody slackened that cap when it is anything other than stone cold? When the engine is right up to normal, if you look at the reservoir (don’t open it or even touch the cap, where is the coolant? Keep in mind there will be a lot of turmoil going on in there but is it crammed full with coolant dripping out of the overflow or can you see air at the top - take me photo if you wouldn’t mind please.

Sorry Don When I said it was darker , there was definatly a grey / blacker mix. But since last Tuesday it's looks perfectly pink again. There is a gap between the coolant and the top of the vessel now , took photo below this morning after driving to work. Engine at full temp too , but... there is now only a slight weep from the overflow. You may be able to see it laying on back of the vessel.

Things have just escalated, had a call from Toyota - the warranty company want my vehicle for inspection at local Toyota a.s.a.p They don't even want it driven anymore.
I said if they have my car , I need a loan car.
As it's possibly for a week or so.
I don't think that's unreasonable , says I'm entitled to it on my warranty document.

Jamie remind me.... Has Toyota diagnosed a failed head gasket ? If so do you know what tests they did ? Hi Charlie, no.... they said they'd done some tests and said the car needed a new engine. I must admit I'd like to know what tests they did , wouldn't mean a thing to me though.

Just for clarification.... you say "The Warranty Company"? Is it an actual Toyota Extended Warranty you have? or is it a Warranty that you bought from a Toyota Dealer? just curious about your wording. Toyota Dealers do sell non-Toyota Extended Warranties as well, for non-Toyotas and Toyota cars that are not 'Used Approved' (I think that is the term?) But yes, I cannot see they can deny your request for an courtesy car (don't call it a loan - they may ask for money!) - They can deliver it when they collect your car (as they don't want it driven, you can't take it over there).

It’s hard for me to say. I’d want it for a few days to be confident about what’s going on but unless I knew of a 150 issue (was there a guy that said he had a head gasket go on one of the forums?). I personally have never come across a single one and furthermore, if it were mine and it did do the head gasket, I’d certainly have a go at a gasket for what it costs before stumping up for an engine. Yes you there can be problems but I’ve seen some of the work that gets done in garages and I’d prefer to work to my standards. If it did then fail it’s plan B but I’d dig in with plan A first. Right, in this case, it’s academic as somebody has made the decision and it sounds like a new or reconditioned engine is on the cards.
