Humorise me Paul.......air filter.......ever checked.....? Nurra easy but wee nuisance job.......MAF sensor at back of air filter housing can be accessed MUCH BETTER with complete housing removed and on a bench. Buy an arsehole of MAF cleaner fluid and spray liberally to clean its wee fine wire element. POKE YE NOT NUFFINK INTO IT.......if you break the element wire, it do be gubbert. If does not cure per se, it should be done periodicfully anyways. Worked great on wife's car.

Blimey Kev that, apart from the air filter bit sounds a bit complicated for moi  whatever gave you the impression I know about these things Air filter was changed at the service we were told and does look new?? Could it have owt to do with the aircon bomb as it all happened when the ten minutes allowed for that to do it's business finished and was ticking over fine till then??

Not very likely, Paul, especially as it occcurred before with your better half before the aircon treatment. Best to see what code(s) are stored on the OBC with a code reader. Could be something simple as BK says like the MAF filament.

Funny you should ask, Paul.......when we used that air con bomb thing on wife's 4.2, the engine never turned over for about a week after that........solved the mystery......we went away on holiday and took my car.......LOL..........SORRY.......sarcasm lowest form of wit.......nuffink to do with air freshener. Removing air FILTER housing is simple......10mm socket, ratchet, small extension. Remove MAF with posidrive driver....clean wiff spray.....refitting is reverse of removal as Haynes would say.

A ten quid reader will give you ten quids worth of code reading, .... My mate Thomas Tit bought one .......
you only spray WD on a MAF if you want to bugger it.

Is THIS what I will attempt to do? Seems easy enough to do, like changing the oil was Will I need the proper MAF cleaner to do this as some say that carb cleaner is too strong?

OK Charlie, my mate said he can get a pro reader from his mate who owns a garage but it won't be till later next week? So In the mean time I will have a go at the MAF meself and try to get the proper cleaner :TU:

I've bought THIS one as it seems to be the one most are using on the videos I've looked at so will wait for it to arrive before starting. So when I clean it how clean has it gotta be? I take it there will be some sort of coating on there which the cleaner will clean off but do I need to get it all off down to the wire and does the cleaner evaporate so it's dry or do I have to wait till it dries out??
