We have a 6 year old Audi Q5 auto here in Spain, and although a quality car, I am finding it unsuitable for our lifestyle, and am thinking of changing it for either a fully specced Tiguan or a Vitara. Our house is in the country and we need 4x4, and a tough one to boot! Still keeping the dear old RAV for tip and dog runs, but she who must be obeyed wants a "posh" car for going out in! Any suggestions as to suitability, and does anyone have either a Tiggy or the Susuki?

Suzuki Vitara isn’t posh or well built.... Horrible things. Tiguan much better. Audi Q5 betterer by a mile.

Yes appreciate that Charlie, but the Audi is getting little use, but as a mile gobbler it is superb. I drove the Suzuki before buying the Audi and actually liked it, but couldn't get the spec I wanted unless I had the gaudy red instrument panel. They seem to build them in batches, which is not ideal. If I look for a Tiguan, it will be the 177Hp and auto, but they are rare second hand here, and generally high mileage.

My misses wanted a Tiguan, until she drove one. I'd have to say there ain't nothing "posh" about it either. Like most VWs, very plasticky inside. Step down from a Q5 IMO. I know it doesn't really matter, but the Tiguan also felt very slow??!!
She ended up with a CX-5. Which is going well but is only a Mazda.
No idea about the Suzuki. Cheap and cheerful I always thought. Like a Dacia but the next rung up.

Surprised if you have an Audi that you would even consider a Suzuki if it's a SWMBO status symbol, to me it would be Audi > Toyota > VW > Mazda > Suzuki, logical other 4x4 to look at would be BMW

Really nothing to do with status, but where our house is in Spain, we are on a dirt track which occasionally gets washed out, so need 4x4, and practicality says the Audi, lovely as it is, is not really practical enough, certainly tyre wise, to keep going where we are. I also would prefer the size of the 4.2 RAV, hence thinking about the Susuzi, or VW. I probably shouldn't have bought the Audi, but it was a good deal, quite well specced, and low mileage, and she who must be obeyed like the colour, so job done!! |

We nearly bought a new Ateca a year ago, and loved the car. However, at the time, the dealer which had the car in Barcelona, wasn't able to change the fitted 19" wheels for 18's, so we cancelled the deal. Since then, we decided not to buy new, and the Ateca is still on the pricey side S/H here. Love the new Volvo XC40, but again too much dinero. |

I had an 04 Vitara from new and it was ideal for me at the time. I was doing a lot of building work and towing so the low box was great on some of the hils around here. If I was swapping the RAV ( I'm not! ), I would be looking at the Vitara again as the latest RAV is far too big and expensive for what I now need. Has the Vitara still got a low box as that is VERY useful on rough ground, i.e. a washed out track? It wasn't as capable off'road as a LR but it was a very nimble vehicle with a decent turning circle. When I decided to change it, Suzuki were starting to source engines from ( if I remember correctly ) Fiat and I really didn't fancy that option. I have to say, in the time I had it, it never missed a beat despite some fairly severe punishment. I didn't trade it in buy gave it to my daughter who loved it till I swapped it for my brothers RAV XT5 which she would still have if it wasn't for her three youngsters growing too big for the rear seat. So, I have owned one and driven it for about 80,000 miles and that is what I base my opinion on. ( the inside was no more plastic than the XT5! ) |

I've always had alot of time for Skodas even in the old days of the Estelle, etc. when Skoda was independent and were the but of snobs' jokes.They were good cars then too.
I found an 09-reg Roomster TDi for my brother-in-law to replace his aging C-Max recently. Bloody impressive car it is.
