I have recently bought a 67 plate Rav 4. I am finding main beam very poor. I live in the land of wild boar and deer so I need all the help I can get in spotting them. How can I improve things ?

You might want to give a few more details of your RAV so we can better understand the issue ...
I have a 63 plate with halogen projector headlights - I don't have any issue at all with the performance of the main beam but many of us 'complain' that the dipped beam could be brighter / project further. This is mostly because the beam is configured to cut-off quite sharply so as not to dazzle oncoming drivers. The 'solution' is to switch to main beam ... just as long as there are no oncoming vehicles that is!

The car in question is a Rav 4 excel 2.0 DM premium 4x2.
Can brighter bulbs be fitted ?

:welcome: to the forum Davey. I'm guessing that you live somewhere such as the Forest of Dean if you have to dodge Deer and Wild Boar With regard to brighter bulbs, you could fit something like Osram Nightbreakers but have you checked that the beam is adjusted correctly? IF the range is set close you will have a limited field of vision. As Philip has mentioned above, many complain about the poor dipped beam light output but few are not satisfied with the main beams. If you fill in your details in the user control panel it will be easier for others to make suggestions without having to read back :TU:

Not the response I was expecting. Welcome aboard, Davey, our newest mibeez slightly impatient member. The answer is yes, and Davrav has indeed named the correct upgraderisers we have all used. If ye can click yer heels for just anurra wee while, he will probably even give you the correct nomenclature thereof. Have just today fitted the NEWER Osram "Laser" version of the Nightbreakers to wife's 14 year auld Three Door Rav......not quite dark yet, but very dull and damp here east of Inverness. The difference in light is utterly sexual.......hers takes the dual wattage H4 60/55w bulbs, but your car will take two differentes......one is H3 IIRC. Personally, I would change all four.......ALL standard bulbs are carp. As a matter of interest, the Nighties that I removed were still totally servicable after 7 years in the car, but light had "yellowed" slightly probably due to age and gas leaking. See.......ah can be technical........"gas leaking"........

What bulbs do I need for a 4.3 I've being going to do this each winner we've had the car, so maybe this year, are they easy to change, or are they hands of a child, strength of Garth type job?

The offside / driver side one has the least space to work in, so start with that side. Remove the wee stud that holds the screen wash filler neck in place, and bend said neck away oot the road. Trust me.....it WILL bend......great tip of Don's yonks ago. Bulb removal is relatively straight thereafter, and I am presuming you have separate main beam / dipped bulbs. When you remove the bulb, pound to a pinch of salt its rubber seating washer will have remained in place. Your new bulb comes with its washer attached, and will NEVER seat properly with the old washer still there.....check.
Nearside is much easier, doing same diligence re. that washer. Don't remember the bulb refs. offhand......get them aff Oor Davrav, and if them new Osram Lasers are available, they are awfy good as previously reported just today.
Wear nitrile gloves to (a) get a grip of the condom tight rubber seals at rear of lights, and (b) save SOME of the tiny wee cuts all them bliddy sharp edges WILL impartify.......
Forgot......you asked if difficult........by virtue of ME being capable of doing it, reply is Naw.......

Papal Excrement (Holy shit....) Phaeton now in coronary care.......that would be £80.00 ffs if he replaced all four should he opt for the new gen Laser wans.....!
Update.......took wife's new bulbs..... £17.00 the pair....on first wee test drive in Guy Fawkes smoky, damp, misty, smirry night.........SUPERB DIFFERENCE.....,!
How the bliddy blazes they justify that price differential is beyond my ken, ken......?
