to the forum Davey. I'm guessing that you live somewhere such as the Forest of Dean if you have to dodge Deer and Wild Boar With regard to brighter bulbs, you could fit something like Osram Nightbreakers but have you checked that the beam is adjusted correctly? IF the range is set close you will have a limited field of vision. As Philip has mentioned above, many complain about the poor dipped beam light output but few are not satisfied with the main beams. If you fill in your details in the user control panel it will be easier for others to make suggestions without having to read back That might be a wrong assumption - there is a dear in Westminster London (in fact there may be more) with a pet name of Tresa sumptin. And there are more than 100 wild bores herded close by too.
The bulb info is interesting - will need to find out the size of candles used in my Volvo XC90 as almost flattened a couple of bollards yesterday morning someone had planted half way across the road - designed to cut speed and rip the ass out of cars. In the meantie willask the wife to walk up front with a red flag..... (whats wrong with a yellow flag? Does it need to be a red flag?)

So I need one bulb each side ? What one is recommended? You need to check your manual for appropriate fitting - I THINK it is HIR2 LL 9012 55W but am not 100% sure. Then start to look for anything that claims higher output than OE. Have you checked beam alignment/height adjustment yet?

Phaets min.......will open your links in a wee minute to see how much cheaper these are than the new fankult "bliddy laser" wans, but these PREVIOUS Osram Nighties are an improvement on standard, and given the age of yer Rav, the gas shall have, to some degree, permeated the capsule of your old units.......Hoovie would say buggert.........love techy speak, me......lol. Editation........to change ALL FOUR, you would be £50.00........that, for anybody south of Gretna, is a saving of 30GBP........go down that route IMHO........all four bulbs will be gubbed at that age........

Then start to look for anything that claims higher output than OE. Have you checked beam alignment/height adjustment yet? This thread was starting to confuse me so I tried to do some checking ... My pre-facelift 4.4 uses two pairs of 60w HB4s - the outer two for dipped beam and the inner two for main beam. And, as has been suggested, you would need to shift the wash bottle filler to get at the drivers side dipped beam fitting. I'm pretty sure than even I could change the main beam bulbs without having to shift anything else. Downloading the owners manual for a 2017/18 RAV and looking at the current specs for an Excel, I'm pretty sure that the dipped beams are now LEDs - and therefore not changeable or upgrade-able by the owner so no need to worry about shifting the wash bottle filler any more. And I think that the main beams are the HIR2s as davrav suggests - the manual describes them as "Headlights (halogen headlights)" without specifying main or dipped beam but the instructions for changing them are identical to those for my main beams (if that makes any sense and doesn't confuse further). And, if that is the case, I now begin to understand the OPs original question - he's got ridiculously bright dipped beams so the main beams possibly look yellow and dim by comparison.

Would the HIR2s title not lead you to believe that the "HI" part relates to them being High Intensity (as in Discharge) or is that just confusing furtherer.....?
Anywayhowz, today ordered up £30.00 pair of the Osram Laser H11 dipped beam ONLY bulbs........that is how much they have impressed me on wife's wee Rav. Never bought the main beam wans as more often than not, one is required to dip for oncoming traffic, plus confident the mixture of old and new on full beam will suffice. Great nowadays having the option NOT to drive after dark anyway........lol.

That would be just confusing much furtherer ... the HIR2 appears the be a standard halogen lamp with yet another 'special' fitting. And there don't seem to be many road legal upgrades available [yet] ...

Updatification......looked oot my diploma in Guy Nae Collegey, and proceeded to fit them this afternoon. Tonight is a superb, clear, 7 degree crip dry wan in the Scottish Highland Coastal area, so in truth, two candles would licht the way ahead, ken.....?
But......oh my bliddy giddy auntie........H11 Osram Laser Nightbreakers are utterly stunning in their OWN right, but combining them where allowed with my now 6 year old Osram Standard Nightbreakers on full beam must be giving me an increase of about 20-30 yards.......stunning. In dip alone the difference in spread is superb, slightly worrying that the OFFSIDE is superbly defined now......will they dazzle oncomerisers.....? Will report on any flashing.......

According to Halfords you have H1 dipped and HB3 main - not that I believe Halfords necessarily to be correct! What does your owners manual say? Edit: and autobulbs say H11 and HB3 ...

If I still had my Rav, I could have checked the Spare bulbs that I keep in the rear door, but as it was scrapped on Monday I can't

Further update, Jase......only yesterday I fitted the Laser MAIN BEAM HB3 to Funnerburd Wan as I came to the conclusion my 6 year old wans, original Nightbreakers too, may have gone down a bit. Only got a chance to try them out tonight, and again I am stunned at the difference the Laser upgraded ones have made. Probably never got full benefit as air very damp, dank, misty, and reflected back a fair chunk of the new increased light.......will update later. Suffice to say if I was in Watership Down, I could have died happily.......lol.

Can only go back as far as my SR180 (2009) which also took HB3 and H11.
