Our little 2003 RAV passed it's MOT here in Spain, but I believe was very close to failing the emissions test. Just had it checked and we need a new Cat converter to make it good for the future. The mechanic said that there are various grades of Cats, and only the pricier ones are worth investing in. Soooooo, any recommendations for a supplier or indeed a manufacturer that may be available as well, in Spain? Just clicked over 269000 km today, and the Lamba sensors were also tested and proved to be good. Ainsley

Another option is to use a company in Japan called Amayama for genuine parts, not sure on your vehicle exact details but a Catalytic converter is around £1000. www.amayama.com/en

How about checking with the guys that make custom exhausts ? They usually make the systems from stainless and surely they have to fit Cats so the cars will get through MOTS ?

Good thought. any suggestions off the top of your head? I seem to remember in the dim and distant pass that Big Kev had custom parts fitted.

Are you looking to buy in UK or Spain? Don’t forget that the old CAT has a reasonably substantial scrap/reclamation value -don’t just chuck it away?

Very difficult to pick the good from the bad…I looked up peoples views in the States and Walker exhausts have a good name for aftermarket parts. Many exhaust outlets can fabricate pretty much anything on the premises. We have one in Worcester that make full or part systems on site. If you were to lat me have the exact dimensions of what you need Id be happy to go over to them and ask what it would cost . I suspect you would find somewhere local though ....

Really kind of you to offer Charlie, but I will try and take the ready made route unless that proves fruitless. There is no hurry at the moment as I have a year until the next MOT trial. At the moment, we are about to move house so that is taking priority and is definitely one of the more stressful things in life!! Also, the local guy who did the investigation is looking into it as well for a price for the job including parts. First time I have used him, but he seems good, and is well recommended.

If the parts are a better price in the UK then I will pick them up early next year in the motorhome, otherwise I will buy them here and bring the old Cat back to the UK for scrap.

I would probably opt for the Quentin Hazel one as it is a brand I know. I will wait and see what the mechanic here comes up with. Thanks for looking Bob.
