My current Rav4 has done 40k and still has originals on the rear 11 yrs old, my other rav4 is 17 yrs old and still has original spare!! , I have a relative who sells 2nd hand tyres in Manchester he buys them in çontainer loads from Germany and has done for 30 yrs, I believe in Germany they are not allowed to sell 2nd hand tyres, so there are ,tons of 2nd hand tyres which are perfectly good, if the OP ever travels to Manchester I might be able to sort something out for him👍stew

Hence lots of tyres still with decent tread. Whilst I’m not into part worns I guess the chance of them having suffered impact damage is no greater than buying a used car. I mean who buys a used car and immediately replaces decent tyres or more specifically replace tyres with lots of tread left. With part worns at least you can examine them carefully before fitting. Any punctures are obvious….. I still wouldn’t fit them to one of our cars unless it was for the reason of selling the car or limping to it’s possible last MOT…

I thought the idea was to get through MOT and then sell the car on at a later stage, years ago my nephew used to have PH drivers asking if they could borrow a set of tyres and then put the old ones back on after it had passed test!!! These days they are all inflated and inspected prior to selling Stew

@stew thanks for the offer but i doubt i will get to manchester in the near future, i did see those tyres on one of the searches i did but was a bit unsure after the advise received. next task if i consider these is getting them fitted..... i though it would be easy but asking at kwik fit after an inspection on my puncture i was told they dont fit other peoples tyres! got a few more to call and ask. saw these on asda tyres....cheapest i could find, but out of stock. not the cheapest but named brand. if the rav passes the mot i may be kept a bit longer to allow the 4.5 of the spec i want to come down a bit more in price, if not (250-300 of work is ok )....i dont know, not had that problem for 10 years since i bought it

In recent years I’ve used ‘tyres on your drive’ so have never needed to go to a tyre depot. Last month I bought a new tyre for the Lexus and had it delivered to home, found a local depot to fit it, he said they don’t fit used tyre due to the risk on their part . Guess that seems fair enough , you might have to go to a breakers yard type outfit that fit used tyres. So maybe new but cheap ….see if you can find the brand you choose on that tyre review site I listed above 👍🏻 I had to buy a second tyre and used Asda tyres on eBay , they do a deal with local tyres fitters, the fitters cursed Asda as they make no money at £10 to fit including balance …..normally cost £22.00 ☹️

Just done a bit of homework on the Asda site for 235/60/16 and this the review from the tyres site for the cheapies….. Dynamo street-H. MU02 seem to tick the boxes 👍🏻 Although go read the reviews yourself, admittedly that’s only 15 reviews .

just got 2 x quotes of £20 per wheel to swap tyres, so that brings more tyres into the equation.

I too have had good service from them on more than one occasion David. Used them this week to have new tyres fitted to refurbished wheels for my SLK. I had already fitted new TPMS sensors to the refurbed wheels ready to go on the car to be mounted by me the next day. I also have the original [now spare] RAV 17" wheels that had winter tyres on them that needed to be taken off and disposed of. Explained all this to the fitter who turned out to be very experienced and a petrol head to boot. He was ultra careful in mounting the tryes to the SLK wheels and was happy to demount and dispose of the RAV tyres for me. I will keep the tyres on the original SLK wheels as spares for a while 'just in case' and eventually have those stripped and refurbed too. So, I now have a set of VGC 17" x 7J six spoke RAV wheels for sale.....
