Hi
I seem to be having a bit of trouble with the rav. its a std 2.0 d4d on a 54 plate with the round foglights which if iam right makes it a 4.2.5. iam getting intermittent hesitations when accellerating, the turbo is not always cutting in and it can be a struggle to get up some of the hills around here! sometimes the turbo is there then next push of the throttle its not?. turbo can also cut in at anytime when accellerating.
a bit of history that may help...i only do short trips and the car does not really get warm which is why i use a can of BG244 every 6months or so to clean the deposits built up on the variable turbo vanes and this has historically worked everytime to cure the problem of poor performance above 2300 rpm.
This time is different, when the turbo does cut in it revs nicely without any issues so iam happy the turbo has had its clean up, but there is something else going on. is it a faulty fuel filter ( 1st thing i will change), SCV's going faulty (changed 5 yrs ago), ruled out pipes, as if there was a split the turbo would not play at all.
its being a real bitch atm.
any feedback/ideas welcome stu
p.s. is the blueprint code for the filter ADT32341, done some searches here but not finding anything on that code.

Bummer Stu……seem to remember one of our more esteemed members remarking he too had seen SCVs go boobs up after changing within a few years. The use of copy/pattern bits instead of dear Denso bits might no help. Deffo get fuel filter done, and not sure if diesels had same system as petrol wans, but on top of air filter was a wee MAF sensor. If there, clean it with high octane spray….no rub, just spray. Every six months mibeez not enough either for fuel additive….I know you will not be using supermarket pish………….? Lol.

Reading a wee bit on the internet, it could be the SCV - implication was that they do need replaced from time to time...limp mode seems a common symptom.

hi all
tks for all the comments. i have my fuel filter ready to fit now, its just finding the time. could be sunday if its not raining. struggled to work and back today with a slower than normal rav. the fault seems to be getting worse with even less turbo today. One of the codes it has thrown is p0627 which from reading around does indicate SCV's. looks like i need a price from Kingo.
lets hope its not the turbo thats given up, as that will be terminal  i cant see a 4.2.5 with 106k on the clock being worth spending a lot of money on.

You can't get rid of it Sich , at that mileage it's barely run in.. lol true... been out changing the fuel filter this morning, my god what a saga. first off i couldn;t get the sensoer off the bottom, then the filter would not unscrew. i had to take the whole filter assembly off and take it into the garage to try to unscrew the filter. still would not budge ! i had to screw the filter assenbly to the edge of the workbech using its mounting points to get enough purchase to finally get the filter off, god it was tight. and hey prest i may have found the issue. condition of the diesel in the filter.....iam now hoping its the issue and not the SCV's. and the good news after priming the filter and it starting first turn of the key is that the issue is solved

now the problem is returning again? not sure what is going on now as all was fine for a week. things that spring to mind are a dodgy batch of fuel in my local garage and something going on in my fuel line/tamk like rust ??
i have found another fuel filter in the tool store so will try taht at the weekend and see what has been captured in the one in place now. i should have checked last time if they were hard or soft bits of debris.

How about fitting a clear plastic inline fuel filter into the fuel line before the main fuel filter ? That way you can monitor what's coming out of the fuel tank.
