Just so long as our advise is not pushing you out of your price bracket , the auto gearbox problem does not affect every vehicle and if this seller has been using it he would have noticed any problems . My personal advise would be go for this car subject to all the HPI checks and dozens of photos he needs to send you etc, odd no photos of the other side of the vehicle 🤔... then get the gearbox ECU sent off just as an extra precaution, get the price reduced to reflect that .👍🏻

The ECU issue could be a good bartering option for you to get the price down more but in reflection the way the 3 door autos are selling the price is fair i'd have thought, so long as this is in all round good nik it's gotta be worth a go? We had a 2002 3 door NRG before we got the auto and did spend quite a bit on it including a new clutch which we got done by a friend so was cheap for us, but have read of others paying well over £500 just for fitting so to get the ECU done is cheaper than a new clutch if the prices given here are correct? Also isn't there issues with 5th gear on the manuals??

Once thing I didn't ask about is history so I'll do that now and ask for more photos cheers

So funny thanks ... So are you saying that it would be a real gamble buying the 3dr 2003 auto ? I just spoke to the guy as I had asked him about the gearbox, diff etc. He said he had taken it in part/ex. He had driven it from Wrexham to Shrewsbury a few times and it seemed fine... As I said this car HAS to be at least reliable and not cost me too much as its going to be my daughters shared car and she cares one to one with severely disabled people so cant afford to be without it Before I commit should I hang on and pay a bit more..I still love the 3 door and would consider a manual now after what people have said Thanks I can only give my view on this. Every car has potential flaws, don't care whether it's a Dacia or a BMW. Some may never exhibit problems, a few will get them all. The RAVs of all versions are much better than most makes in that regard but they are machines so they can break. What I am saying is that there is no guarantee what problems will or won't occur. If it was me, I would go for the auto (I have had a manual RAV and it was great but definitely not as nice as the auto IMHO), I would haggle hard for the best deal possible from the dealer and I would set aside £350-ish just in case the ECU needs done in the future. But that's just me. I wouldn't take second best on the strength of a "what if?" problem that might never happen. Best of luck! 😊 .........then drive it for 30 minutes oot.....20 minutes back.......are all gear changes smooth....? Yes....? Buy it. Believe me, from experience of a 2003 automatic beauty of a 3 door, you will know very soon if the gearbox has gone to Friar Tuck. It took less than 3 miles for the demented kangaroo to kick in on the one I tested.

Well, not so good news. Th dealer said he will try and take some pictures later but wanted the deposit today which of course I didn't give and when I asked about service history he said the previous owner was supposed to give him it but it hasn't arrived yet
Doesnt sound quite right ?

I'd have thought that in the present circumstances any dealer would go the extra mile to get a sale. This guy either has plenty of trade so doesn't think he has to try or he's having a bad day. Give him your number and tell him to call when he's prepared to do a realistic deal.🤔

Sound advice as always from Jim (Firemac) and the rest THIS is the sort of price a decent later model 3 door is going for now. Sorry don’t agree with that number one bit....l There are cars at realistic money .. Like any car search you have to look to find the right car at the right price. A bit of luck helps 👍👍

I hate this “ 100 deposit secures “ and all that bull...... How can we bid on a car until we’ve seen and examined it.... Putting a deposit kinda puts the buyer at a disadvantage. It’s like the deal is done and dusted before leaving the house. I have never nor will ever fall for that cobblers. Dealers say it’s so you don’t miss out .... Really 😂😂😂😂 No it’s a pressure tactic put in place so your committed .... Garage I was trying to buy an IQ off up in north Derbyshire told me I needed to put down a deposit cos there were lots of folk after the car..... I didn’t and nearly five months later they still have the same car..

One former keeper from new ...........who was in the habit of riding the clutch? That mileage on a seventeen year old car and I would lay money on an elderly driver. Looks like a good prospect to me.

Unless I'm mistaken that's FWD RAV not 4x4.

One former keeper last owners since 2012 ?? What’s that supposed to mean ? I read it as one former keeper before the keeper whose owned it since 2012 .... So not a one owner car. Not that it matters it doesn't ...
VOSA warranted miles ? There is NO such thing. Sellers often try to imply that VOSA records warrant mileage when it absolutely doesent.
Decent looking car that would benefit from a set of alloys but they are plentiful and cheap .

Yes I said no ! Saw this one ..yes I know its a manual but new clutch already at 69k ? linkThis Rav4 is a NV 1.8 as said above and it will be front wheel drive only , not really an issue if you don’t need it . Could be the perfect inexpensive 3 door you are looking for and cheaper road tax 👍🏻

I don't think I need it.. I presume the rav4 handles like any fwd car and not worse ie without 4wd its more difficult in winter?
Cheers
