I've never heard of such a thing, but I have them.
Rav went in for its annual service and I informed them about a sort of noise from the rear of the car, especially on motorways. They test drove it and have pin pointed it to the rear tyres !!
They are definitely unevenly worn, so getting them replaced.
Nothing to do with tyre pressures etc, as I am spot on with that !!
Any ideas the cause of this ?

Wheel alignment? Do you need a four wheel alignment? Ironically, at my last service I was informed that there is uneven wear on the inner edge of the front nearside tyre and a four wheel alignment was advised.

If the car has been sitting unused for a while then the tyres can flat-spot leading to odd noises and uneven wear. As they get older it can be worse. Has the car been getting much use during this COVID19 thing?

Obviously right at the beginning of Covid, it had very little use, but quickly after that, it's been used daily.
I can get the 4 wheel alignment checked, but you know if I take it to any tyre place, they'll just say, yes it needs done !!!
Can't use Toyota, as they are pretty booked up !!

I have that problem... with the Quatrac5. Alignment is fine, worn evenly across , but uneven. The noise is not that horrible so decided to leave them tried for a short while to put them at the front, but the noise was much worse! So they are at the back, and will be changed when worn. It started more than a year after changing tires, so could not complain.

Just had the 4x4 wheel alignment checked and all is ok. The guy was impressed on the condition of my Rav . So, I'll just get two new rear tyres fitted and see how it goes.

You may have hit the nail on the head there, never thought of that. They are and it's the first time in all the years I've owned the Rav that I never got all four tyres replaced at the same time !!

Think the handbook might suggest the maximum tread depth difference across axles and front to back. 👍🏻

Shame the Toyota Service dept never came up with possible cause, all I got was "I dunno"

Rear alignment is the problem here.
Getting a four wheel laser alignment along with full geometry checks pays dividends on any car.,
Getting someone to do it perfect is quite another matter.

I’m not Upto speed with the newer RAV4 model 4wd systems but I’m sure it will be covered in the handbook.....or maybe someone knows for sure 👍🏻👍🏻
