We have the opportunity to go and pick up a genuine Toyota bull bar, the one with RAV4 on the chrome part. So before we go and pick it up does anyone know if they are easy to fit and what parts there should be with it, the seller says it is just eight screws that hold it on ?

I believe, as it is an original manufacturer part and type approved for the vehicle, there should be no insurance implications. Good opportunity to get some frontal rust protection applied whilst the bumper is off Paul :TU:

Many cars have different sizes of wheels and tyres specced as options but if you change wheel/tyres most insurers deem that to be a notifiable change that you are obbliged to tell them about. There have even been (ludicrous) reports of insurance companies not accepting the fitment of winter tyres!
Common sense NEVER applies when it comes to insurance. Personally I would inform them, citing that it is an approved manufacturer's accessory.

Just had a look at the insurance,as it's on line, and it does state bull bar as a mod in the list but the policy was unchanged. Also looked for side steps or running boards but they weren't listed? So all good but best to be safe than sorry :TU:

What would the protective tape be required as in page 5?

What would the protective tape be required as in page 5? Some is used to protect surfaces from scratching/scraping and it would appear that some is used to make 'pulling tabs' to help with disassembly Paul. Do you have any plastic trim removal tools? If not there's loads of options on the bay for not alot of money. I bought a 'mid price' set a few years ago and use them far more than I thought I would.

My two penn'orth: The tape was supplied as part of my Toyota towbar wiring kit. It's very similar to 50mm wide masking tape. I would suggest that the blue low tack type might be best but equally well you could almost certainly manage without it if you work carefully ( which I'm sure you would! ) A piece of carpet or underfelt is useful for protecting the bumper whilst it's on the ground while you disconnect the fog lamps ( I've a piece of old fashioned underfelt that I keep in the garage for these sort of jobs ).

Saga Insurance.....I used the expression Bull Bar and they refused to insure me on the premise that a Bull Bar can do more damage in the event of a collision. Tell your insurance nothing. It is purely an aesthetic add on, albeit they would NOT replace it as part of any claim. It’s plastic and aluminium and lighter than ma frisbee.

Sidee steps I fitted to my RAV post purchase were replaced by insurance subsequent to a coming together with a cycle rack no questions asked. As Kev says, just fit and forget. How does anyone know that a car of that vintage wasn't bought with the guard previously fitted?
