It's been about a year when I joined the forum, proclaiming that I wanted a Rav 4 and ended up with a Yaris. Fast forward six months and my wife took it over, with just 1000 miles added on the clock. Needless to say I rarely used it.
Anyhoo, fast forward a further six months and I realised thst I could not manage without a car any longer. This time it was going to be different though. I was going to get a Rav 4.
Although I wanted an automatic, they were like hens teeth within the area I wanted to travel to buy it, and w it in the budget i had set myself. So I compromise and got a manual, I spent £3750 on a 2008 petrol xt-r, with 88000 on the clock.
I'm chuffed to little mint balls with it, as apart from two small scratches on the off side front wheel arch, it's immaculate. So, Friday morning it's going for a full service in a local garage
It's got a full service history, although the chap who owned it previously got it serviced at 78000 miles when he acquired it, he hasn't since, well it's not got a stamp in the book, because he thought he didn't have to have one till it had done 90000.
The weather hasn't been to good to take photos, I'll post a few when it warms up a bit. Any advice on going forward with regards to what to look out for would be much appreciated. Thanks for reading.
Phil

Not long paid nearly £6k for a Nottymatic wan of 2006 vintage......only 52k miles though and full TSH.......which means jack shit when I see the corners they have cut. Get a boot liner off ebay, and get a couple of old duvets WRAPPED IN PLAKKY BAGS to avoid condensation and fill the voids under boot floor. Works wonders for reducing road noise in that “boom box”, as does having boot blind in place. In time, get gearbox, transfer box, and rear diff oils drained and replaced.......helps slightly to smooth oot that notchy first to second gear change, and getting other two changed makes for quieter running too.
First thing to check is pollen filter behind glove box.....so easy to do yet I have seen some richt bowfin’ wans.
Does your rear door open to 90 degrees.....? That’ll be anurra 50 quid if it annoys you. Again easy job with a wee bit of rear door trim removal......do on a WARM day.
Brakes are a bugger for binding on their wee guide pins, thus one pad gets worn prematurefully......ask your garage to have a wee glance.
Go on to Euro Car Parts for Denso Wiper Blades........you are now sorted. As usual, anything really complex, just ask for me.......I am usually oot........🤪

Thanks Clarki, Roger. Great advice Ken, thanks for the "experienced" knowledge. The duvet could also double up as a blanket if you broke down in the snow. What do you think a garage would charge for changing the oils?

Thanks Clarki, Roger. Great advice Ken, thanks for the "experienced" knowledge. The duvet could also double up as a blanket if you broke down in the snow. What do you think a garage would charge for changing the oils? About £40.00 labour, Frank, and a tennerz wurf of oil......
