Washed, polished...and waxed!! Get you some of that!!
I think I may have lost this one to the misses already though. She absolutely loves it.
Tbh it does drive very well and feels incredibly sturdy/sure footed on the road. And although its 3 years older than the mazda its deffo a step up in terms of quality. OK the infotainment system is showing its age but the materials and dare I say fit and finish are just better. Touch wood, everything works at present, although there is an annoying rattle from around the passenger b-pillar I need to have a look at this weekend.

So little update, for anyone interested, cos I wasn't sure how this car was going to go either tbh. The misses is still working from home so I used the Evoque last week to put some miles on, it's more or less been siting for 3 months. It passed an MOT just before lockdown which was good and seems to be going along ok. Next year is the BIG service so talk at home is either get it done and keep the thing or maybe trade it for something newer. Year to go until that choice has to be made so be staying for a while yet. Not as easy to get in and out of as the Rav, or the Yaris for that matter, but the seats are good and the driving position excellent. No-one has sat in the back yet but I bet it's cramped. The engine is weird. It pulls strong and clean low down, plenty of torques in the 2.2, but gets really quite noisy and unrefined as the revs rise. You do have to shift early and ride the torque wave. The gearbox helps here because it's not bad. Not quite as smooth as the newer JLR stuff but just as quick without being jerky. The ride is weird too. It glides over big bumps/potholes without a care. But little ripples really unsettle it??!! Haven't tried the dynamic mode yet but probably more of the same. MPG is poor, the materials used are excellent inside and out, barely a mark or stone chip anywhere, stereo system is fantastic, info centre a bit slow, seems quite gentle on it's tyres and brakes plus it is a lovely place to be and has endless levels of spec. Would I recommend one to a friend, I dont know, JLR products haven't the best reputation but, touch wood, everything still works and personally I love the looks, the colour has certainly been a talking point!! But they ain't cheap and the competition is strong in this sector. Only way I can sum it up is, no we dont miss the CX5.

Need a bit of advice please folks.
Next year, March, the Evoque turns 7. 7 is an expensive year for an Evoque - timing belts!! About a £500 bill, so plus a service and MOT that's a £1k bill give or take. Our car is getting a bit low on tyres now too. Another £500 quid. Brake discs seem ok but pads are getting low, say another £250.
Potentially £1,750 to spend on a car that's going to be 7 years old. Good or bad idea??
The misses is veering towards moving on. What that would be is a whole new thread (S4 avants have been mentioned).

Unless of course you sell it to someone who doesn't know what they’re buying....

For best value / economic sense in these days of Covid uncertainty the most sensible thing to do would be to service the Evoque (aka the car you have) and run it for another three years. But who wants to be sensible anyway, and it almost sounds as thought you won't have that much say in the matter ... And if you are going to part exchange it for something else, I wouldn't spend any more money on it now than is absolutely required ...

Yes, it may cost us £1,500 or so. But a garage will be able to do it for a fraction of the price and sell it on. We've got a couple of cars shortlisted to try over the xmas break. Got till end of march to decide. So fortunately no rush.

A lad at work got one 6 months old a year ago. I asked him what it was like and he said he didn’t know but he could tell me what every other model in the courtesy car pool was like. I thought he was exaggerating about the size of the new defender but sure enough, it is ginormous. I wish I’d photographed it now but he’ll have it again soon.

There have been a lot of horror stories about how bad the new Defender is. JLR really needs to get their act together or they're going to lose what market share they have left.

Yes, I did see some horror stories, especially The Fast Lane Car on youtube - they bought a new one, drove 180 miles and check engine light cam on, and it has been in the garage since (more than a month) - with also offering to change the engine!!! I think the new defender may be sophisticated, but it lost the charm of go anywhere and fix with some spanners if it breaks. I cannot see it lasting as long as the old one did.

I ran 88's and a 90 for years and they were extremely reliable. OK, there was a high maintenance load - but they always got home! The new defender seems to suffer all the ills of the Discovery and Range Rover as far as reliability goes. A great shame.
