Ok , a week after picking it up.
It's 1.5 petrol hybrid.
Now done 215 miles.
Would I be right in thinking this engine will be run in before I collected it ?
It does need the odd burst of power to get going.

What does the manual say? When is the first oil change?

These days, new cars are usually bench run-in at the factory and don't need an oil & filter change before the first scheduled service, e.g. a year or 10K miles, say. Nor do they fill them with specific running-in oil that has to be changed at 600 or 1,000 miles like they used to do in the past. Oil technology has moved on fantastically in the last 25 years so new cars are filled with the normal service oil at the start. There are varying opinions on whether you should drive a new engine gently or cane it although this is a debate that has been going on in motorcycle circles for years, not so much cars. Personally, I would drive the car sympathetically for the first 1,000 miles or so, although with a CVT, I'd guess it is harder to manipulate the revs than on a car with a manual box where you can determine when to change gear. Keep an eye on the oil on the dipstick. With a petrol engine, it should stay reasonably golden/honey coloured between services unlike a diesel that will turn its oil dark/black pretty quickly. But as Dave says, check the manual/service book.

While we are ( nearly ) on the subject of service/maintenance intervals, I found this great window into past requirements in my box of car stuff from the 50s & 60s. Check out these intervals for carrying out maintenance !

Thanks for the reminder how old I am. I’ve done every one of those jobs on moggy 1000s many times. For anybody saying how good they were, they were a swine to work on one the chassis fell to pieces at the first sign of rain. Anyhow, here’s an off-roader for rambs next time. I’d love a tidy one of these.....

Amusing to see the ' energy display ' showing to car doing it's thing. 😂 I only give it the beans for a few seconds just to break in that c v t gearbox. Fascinating, all this modern tech. By the way... can't see anything in the manual... strange. Looked for ' running in period ' .. nowt.

Jase when I picked the C-HR up I asked the question. He said 1st service at 10K and there is no run in period but easy on the brakes for about 200 odd miles. My C-HR is hybrid too. As the miles are getting on the fuel consumption is getting better and better. Averaging now around 58 MPG local driving. At the beginning it was in the bottom 40’s.its CVT too and does get a bit getting used to the sound more than anything

Yep... bedding my brakes in too, done 370 miles now. And I'm getting 58mpg average , but I'm probably a little heavy footed tbh 🙄

The only thing that I don’t like about the CVT is the noise of the engine when your joining the motorway or a dual carriageway. Once it hits the 70 mark it quietens back down and is nice and smooth.Does the Yaris have the road sign assist? I really find that useless. The other day it was showing the speed limit as 110 mph 🤯

I've just registered 96.5 mpg driving through our village on battery & petrol with cruise control on at 30mph. Done that for the 1 mile straight across our village green. Made me smile 😊 That silent drive is still... very strange.
