About 5 weeks ago for the first time ever I had a snag with the key-less start system. As I have done since we first owned it I put my foot on the brake pedal, operated the start button but instead of normal the engine only fired for about 1 second and then died.
This repeated itself 4 times before it kept going as normal. This was in our garage with the
interior garage temperature at about 20C.
Well yesterday it started first time and drove normally until our stop after about 5 or 6 kilometers.
We were only gone for about 20 minutes but again it refused to start properly and died again about
4 tries before starting and running as normally, the outside temperature was about 17C.
Now the cause the first time might have been because I perhaps over filled the petrol tank but I have done this before without any snag. This time however I last filled up 3 weeks ago so I don't think that this was the cause this time?
The genuine Toyota extended warranty runs out next month and I have mentioned this snag to our dealer but just in case can anyone give me an idea about what I can have a look at please as our dealer is approx 80 Kilometers away.
IF you can please would you make it very easy and undetectable by the dealer as I don't want to risk the warranty so close to its finishing.

Just a shot in the dark but, fob batteries OK? Have they been replaced in the past five years? Is this with both fobs?

Hi davrav thanks for that idea but funnily enough I had changed both about 3 weeks before as I had a warning message appear telling me that one was getting low. The real snag is of course that it has only happened on two occasions so fault finding isn't easy. Ah I have just this second had a thought the dealer can plug his computer in and see if that shows anything

Update. Well it hasn't not started again so of course when it went into the dealer yesterday they couldn't find the problem.
They lent us a brand new Corolla Hybrid demonstrator to drive around in and although it was quieter than our RAV the only thing I preferred was the fact that they are two holes (?) to put your hands in to close the tailgate. Our RAV only has one on the right hand side and I have always wanted it to be on the left.My wife thought that the big screen was great but I am not that keen...it has too many buttons to alter things and I don't like the thought of having to use them whilst driving. I am sure it could be a bit of a distraction. Oh yes it showed the engine charging the battery and then the battery powering stuff but again not something I could be bothered with, I feel it's not needed. When stopped at some traffic lights I thought that I could hear an ambulance siren in the distance. At the next stop I heard it again..strange I thought but then dimmo me realised it was the car making that noise.
I also had a good look inside the new RAV and they also have this large screen so that was a
shame although I am sure thousands will like it. I forgot to ask if it can be turned off.
Being old, over weight and not very bendy I think that there is zero chance of buying such a low
down car like that Corolla ever again
