If I get something like that, could I use the power and or connectors that go to the power outlet that's inside the centre console, which I have never used ?
It should all be accessible !!

Yes, but it's unlikely you'll have/get a ready made connector lead. You'll need to splice into the existing leads.

OK, so why not plug your rechargeable torch into the power outlet that's inside the centre console and simply pop a cigar lighter socket to (two) USB power socket(s) where the torch is now? That gives you power for the 'phone etc with no new wiring. And then get the Kenwood USB input put somewhere 'tidy' so that you could use it to play audio or video files as intended by Kenwood ... Just a thought - probably unhelpful at this stage!

I'm trying to avoid having wires trailing all over the place.
When my phone is plugged in and in that shelf, I see nothing.
Apart from the cable for charging my wife's phone when she is a passenger from the usb next to the mirror controls, that's the only cable anyone would see and it's the closest point to the front passenger seat. I know I could just use the socket inside the armrest and have the wire coming out of there, which is what she currently is doing until I decide the other options.
