Hi,
Wife seems to have misplaced the keyless entry and go for the Tab, should I not find it, does anyone have any idea of the stupidly expensive replacement cost ?

Just remembered, I have Key Cover with my Gold AA membership, so unless my keys are handed in over the next few days, they will cover all costs up to £1000.
I do hope they are found and handed in, as they are useless to everyone. They'll also get the £15 reward which is mentioned on the AA key fob on the key ring.
Here's to hoping that there are decent honest citizens still out there.

Just make sure the RAV is still on the driveway in the morning.......... I wonder if there is a way of disabling a car ? Under the bonnet maybe ? Perhaps just disconnecting the battery ?? Ive often wondered if it would be difficult to have a switch hidden away somewhere that could disable a car or van say when we are away ?

If there is a positive I can pull out of this, it happened 80 miles away from home and there is nothing on the key ring to connect anything to our home or the car !!! Apart for the key fob obviously, but at least it was not lost locally !!!

I used to have a colleague who often had to park his car away from his house in an area prone to 'taking without consent'. He simply cut a couple of ignition wires and created a 'birds nest' of assorted wires with a lot of loose ends, only two of which would complete the circuit if joined.

Hi, Wife seems to have misplaced the keyless entry and go for the Tab, should I not find it, does anyone have any idea of the stupidly expensive replacement cost ? Ravasher had to get replacement keys recently and the RAC in his case ( I think ) sent out and independent locksmith from York to do the job. He was delighted with the outcome and the service he received. I don't know where you are based so the info might be completely irrevalent

As three5 said il lost the keys for the Rav and Yaris. I had keycover with RAC and everything was done within 3 days. I was offered a courtesy car too but didn’t have it as we had the C-HR. They are quick and have all they need on their vans to program the fobs and keys. He came out and was here for around 3 hours and had everything done. Also have us a spare set too.

Although, it looks like everything will be covered and sorted, I am going to take this up with the AA, as all they did was transfer me to the car key insurance company.
I thought it's the AA's job to "assist" a stranded member ?
My wife was stranded in another city 70 miles away from home with no access to the car, her jacket and the car was parked in a one hour only zone.
I travelled by train with our spare set of keys, so in this case I'm not at all happy with the AA's options to help.
I was expecting the AA man to meet my wife at the car, somehow electronically override everything and get her going or at least put it on a flat bed and bring her home.
So I'll be drafting a stern email to them over this weekend and will be looking for compensation of some kind.

As I said earlier we were offered a courtesy car and asked if we needed recovery which thankfully we didn’t as the cars were at home. That’s ridiculous as you should be covered with the AA to get your car home at least. On a different breakdown last year when I had a puncture I had a taxi pick me up and the car was recovered home later on. Reason for taxi was I could t get into the recovery lorry so they got me a taxi. I’d be fuming with the AA. Even though we were referred to the locksmith directly we were offered recovery and a courtesy car so don’t see why the AA don’t have the same policy

Did one of you tell the AA that you had a spare set of keys and that you could get to the vehicle?

I have just listened to the original call that I had with the AA, as I record all my calls.
At no time did I say anything about a spare set of keys, I did not get the chance, all he said is it would take 3 days and it would cost £368 until I said I had key cover and he transferred me to the key cover insurance company. He did not explain any other options at all and neither did the insurance company. I guess they will blame it on each other, however my argument or feedback is my cover is with AA and the number to dial on the key fob is a AA key fob with a AA telephone number.
My point being, the AA person did not explain any process, procedure or options.
I pay my money to AA, so they are my first point of contact and I'll wait and see what their reply is.

I would like to do some sort of simple switchable immobilisation on the Motorhome... The easiest circuit to interrupt is the starter circuit, on the low switching side, you can often just pull the terminal off the starter, extend the wire back up into the cab & back again. Then under the dash you put a hidden switch, I have such a circuit on the kit car, won't stop a determined thief, but will slow others down or deter them.

I used to wire a switch to the fuel solenoid on older diesels but of course that's not possible on modern diesels to my knowledge.
