Realised yesterday I lost my keys no idea where or when. Had a few on there front and back house keys, Yaris and the 4.2. The wife has the same bunch so not a problem for the ones I’ve lost as I can have duplicates. However no spare for the Yaris. Called RRG and have beeen quoted.................£800-£1200😱😱😱🤦🏻♂️😬 . Had to ask him a few times was he sure. Wasn’t too sure what to do as there’s no way I’m paying that. We have key replace on Toyota insurance, RAC and home insurance too all part of the policies and called them to see if they could help. Had to provide them with copies of log books, driving licence and insurance certificates. They’ve agreed to cover the costs including reprogramming and anything else. They also said they will replace my key for the Rav even though the wife has hers. They will invoice the locksmith directly and he will come home and sort the keys out. Now here’s the best bit. Once his got the key codes he can get the blade cut but then he has to reprogramme the ECU with their software as Toyota only provide the code for the blade I said to him how much are you charging the insurance company and now this was shocking too.............he said depending on time it takes it’ll be around £300-£400 thinking How the hell can a locksmith do all this but Toyota want to charge you 3 times the amount? Makes no sense how Toyota can justify their price and their price doesn’t include labour and reprogramming. 🙄🙄

Are you going to replace the locks on the house Ash as you don’t know where you lost the keys ? I am Bob it’s straightforward for the house keys it’s the car keys that are the headache. I really can’t see how they can justify their prices yet an independent locksmith can do the same thing a lot lot cheaper

Sorry to hear of your problem but interesting news on the locksmith. I doubt I have lost key insurance so I would have to pay out!
I did use a locksmith, some years back, when we had a problem wit our front door lock and I didn't have the time to deal with it myself. The locksmith did a good job and I was pleased with the service.
I have in the past been shocked at some prices charged by Toyota, and Subaru too! I don't know about Honda because I have not had to change anything yet so I can't compare - buying their 5 year service plan makes for a good deal.

Had a guy come out from York who managed to get the whole job done in less than 2 hours. His van was something to die for with all the stuff he had in it. Anyway he made 2 keys for the Yaris and 1 for the Rav. Really can’t see how Toyota can justify their prices 🤷🏽♂️
