As Andy pointed out recently there is much oil that lays in various ares in the engine so we only ever get a percentage out. So a few drips overnight isn’t going to make any difference. If an engine is full of crap like that one maybe a top quality flushing oil would be a good idea. I thought a proper engine flush could do more damage to an older engine Charlie?? How ? The guys at DNA really recommend flushing.

Charlie , I'm pretty sure if an engine is well maintained and serviced regularly then the flush is a good idea. I believe problems arise on neglected engines where the flush can remove carbon build up and result in a loss of compression.

Agree fully with that jase, disturb all that crud in a baldly maintained engine and you stand a change of the oilways getting blocked with carbon deposits ☹️☹️

Ok so I put the old oil through a fine sieve and this is what was left though some of the bits stuck to the sides of the bottles so would be more if I could have got it all out. Not has bad as I thought it would have been but is this sort of thing usually found though it seems no one looks at the oil once it's been drained so perhaps it is?? The Rav seems to be driving fine at the moment, touch wood

Enjoy the car and stop worrying. I don't like tempting fate Jim but the engine in this Rav is "as sweet as a nut" as they say and very quiet so will just do another oil and filter change in six months time, may as well now I have the strap for the filter :TU:

I would given the crap that has come out treat the fresh oil as a flushing oil.
I would drive the car hard for say twenty minutes then drop the oil. Then fit a new filter and new fresh high quality oil.
Oil is cheap engines are not.
