It's off thank gawd and the new one on with a smearing of oil round the seal and managed to get the old drain plus seal off in one piece, but there still seems plenty of oil dripping out after 24 hours so will leave it till tomorrow if that is ok to do or should I just fill it with the new oil now? Thanks for the offer Chris very kind of you and perhaps a tool I should invest in Bob :TU:

Did you replace the copper washer on the sump plug?

I would generally leave the engine draining whilst I changed the air filter and checked everything else - maybe 3/4 hour. It's a lot longer than they leave it at the dealers!

That's it folks all done and thanks for the help :TU: Got the engine upto temp and checked for any leaks but all looked good so will check the level again in the morning  The oil filter that came off wasn't a Toyota one but one called ABC never heard of em?? If i'm going to be doing the oil changes meself in the future think I will invest in one of those cup types that fit on the bottom as using that would have been a lot easier to get the filter off with :TU:

I've used Mann filters a lot over the years and I've never had any issues. Ditto! Double ditto,,,

Mann make filters for German OE and where I’ve used them (odd shaped air filters) they’ve been spot on. Eurocarparts do an offer every week so they run very competitive too.

Well when and checked it first thing this morning and all was fine even the level was spot on so another little job I've managed to do :TU:
Would that cup tool fit the Mann filter or just Toyotas own??

I’ve never purchased or used a cap tool as from my motor trade days I needed tools to work on all brands of car , I take it the cup tool just fits the Rav4 genuine oil filters ?

On the 4.3 Bob, the filter is inside an aluminium chamber the end cap of which is removed with the large "socket". It seems to be a fairly popular design at the moment as you have to be careful that you get exactly the right size for the filter housing. They seem to come in 1 - 2mm steps around 65mm.

Does seem paper element filters are making a comeback ,in my day fitted to mini auto’s and MGC cars 😉

I still think that the exhaust clamp on the mini manifold was designed by a sadist

Proper little swine!

Minis and 1100s were the bane of my life for a while. Whilst they were a hoot to drive, their build quality was almost non-existent. I don't remember any of them fondly....
