The car has a badly scuffed rear gray bumper. How do I go about fixing it? I know it will need rubbing down abd filling but what about bumper paint to finish the job?

Can you get that part off to make the job easier? I would think a fine finish body filler would be all that you would need prior to priming and painting. Presumably you will be going the 'rattle can' route?

Matching the shade of grey is the problem though, Toyota can't help.

Ah, you mean the colour code of the bumper paint?

There are paint companys around that will mix paint for you if you take a part in of the required colour.

Not with the code, no, unless it is on the ID plate on the driver door jamb. As Jase has mentioned, there are various companies that will match a colour on a part. Others may have a better idea of what the bumper colour might be though. Alternative is to have a smart repair done by one of the reputable mobile companies.

Matching the shade of grey is the problem though, Toyota can't help. Hi
I have just done a similar thing, but a bit more damage than yours, I am going to wait until the weather gets better before trying to do a proper job of filling and repainting it properly, but I did just gave it a quick rub down to get rid of the loose paint and sprayed a coat over the damage just to make it look better, I am in France but I did find locally some paint that was a pretty good match to mine (I have a 2005 same colour scheme to yours) and I am sure that you should be able to get the same paint in the UK or possibly amazon.
The paint I used was AUTO-K Spray for plastics
the one I used was the Renault 205139 pierre à fusil 233 101.
It isn't a perfect match but pretty close. from a spray can you will be lucky to get the sort of paint finish that the manufacturers get anyway.
If you want I can send you a couple of photos of the quick touch up that I have done before you order any.
Just added photo, you can see a little difference between the corner and the back trim but fairly marginal

Good body shops do superb on plastic bumpers now and they will match the paint. Personally, I’ve not had very good results with Smart Repairs.
