Couple of neighbours have opted for these VW Sharan / Transporter type things, and having spoken to one at length, I am really taken by them myself. Lack of 4WD would be a deciding factor though. Their 5/7 seat format very quickly folds down to a truly massive load area.......you wouldnae believe the amount of crud wan wee dug needs when we go travelling.......lol. They have problems with the auto DSG gearbox with the VW family of vehicles, the Skoda Yeti auto has a troubled history so I have no doubt other VW brands would suffer the same faults .

The DSG is a phenomenal gearbox in s sporty vehicle. But in an SUV it’s kinda pointless good as it is... Best auto box I’ve driven was in my old Jag XF.... Conventional slush box. Followed by the same box in the Rav4.4... The CVT in the wife’s IQ is brilliant as well. Best bit is it’s amazing MPG....It runs on fumes !! Not sure if I ever mentioned that !! Thats where CVTs win. MPG.

I'm surprised I understood it was the best autobox available, once dove a Seat Leon FR & was very impressed by it.

When it works, it's very good but reliability is a big issue. It's VW's second biggest problem after the ABS debacle in the last generation Golf.

If you type in "problems with the DSG gearbox" a fair few comeback.......this old chestnut shared with the early 4.2 Rav4....... www.ecutesting.com/vw/golf-dsg-7-gearbox-problem.htmlalthough to be fair that is only the golf, my interest was with the Skoda yeti and done some homework on that model and the Yeti forums have discussed problems, seems to be the best place to go for in-depth advise just like on here 😎😎

Old technology only 5 speed mated to a 2 litre VTEC petrol engine. Suits us for now. In the future we will either keep it and I will get a newish MX5 or maybe the hybrid CRV when it comes out www.driving.co.uk/car-reviews/first-drive/2019-honda-cr-v-hybrid-review/

Wife said why don’t you take the Lexus out for a few hours ...so I did and the smile factor has come back 😎😎 was going to put the top down but only 6deg.... I’m enthusiastic but not that much 😄😄 So I’ll put it down to winter blues 👍🏻 I was getting close to a short list of 2016 Rav4 petrol or Mazda CX-3 2.0 petrol but no need now 👍🏻👍🏻Side note.. Mazda still uses a torque converter which surprised me.

At least it's cheaper than a new car Bob. Ref hat/coat for roof down driving, we have a couple of Trapper hats that I keep in the car and a pair of secondhand sheepskin flying jackets. Haven't felt the need to use the ear flaps on the hats as yet so only look mildly ridiculous as opposed to completely hysterical. Nice wool scarf and we're good to go. Thought I would need gloves but not the case.
