over recent months I’ve been thinking about what I need/want in a car for my family’s needs, the Lexus SC430 is a great car and a grand tourer but it’s just for me and sometimes a feel a bit selfish for that ☹️ As I look around at cars I pass on one of my many walks I do I feel a draw back to Rav4 ownership, the type of vehicle that best suits my needs is an SUV and I’ve been reading up on many models from Skoda’s to Nissans, Honda but all have their faults, so,I’ve looked more at the 2015/2016 RAV4 IN A 2.0 Petrol auto, any bad points I should be aware of however small ? not many about in the southeast and colours also limited , do like Red or blue but also notice black is very popular in suv’s. Looks like the spec of these models is more of a match for the SC430 which is great....of course this could just be the winter blues of convertible/coupe ownership but I do tend to get bored with cars after a few years..yet the 3 door we had 6 years back we for over 5 years as the wife liked using it so much. Did have a quick look at 3 doors again but mad money still for an auto model🙄

As far as I know, Bob, the last RAV with a TC box was the 4.2. The 4.3 auto was a CVT and all Toyota's Hybrids are CVTs so I would think that the 4.4 auto was also a CVT.
Mind you, I tried a petrol 4.3 auto (CVT) and was impressed. It was hard to tell that it wasn't a proper TC box.

I love the XWD Saab but still I keeps trawling ads for 4.2s.......
I took the convertible out today and it certainly confirmed that it would take something major to get me to part with it ( even if it is MBH's car).

I’ve only driven CVT cars from the 80s /90s any they were total crap hope they’ve moved on since them....loads of engine revs just didn’t seem right ☹️ My car takes some beating for what it was designed to do..and it does it perfectly ....just like to find a perfect SUV.. if such a vehicle exists 🤔🤔

At the end of the day Bob it’s all down to cost ? If you like your existing set up and are comfortable with the cost then why not keep you Lexus which we all know you love ??
We could simplify our cars . We have 3 between us but it works is not expensive ( The IQs run on fumes you know... Not sure if I ever mentioned that ??) So to spend money as we invariably do the exercise might be a false economy..
Petrol 2014 Rav is a CVT. Toyota’s CVTs are excellent and reliable. 👍👍

You're right about them being pricey but, as I've said before, the market makes the price and they are in demand for a reason.

I don't have your ability to fix cars and to source a good one, so the Lexus would be a gamble for me but I must confess a touch of envy about your Lexus! If I were you I would be very slow to change from the Lexus. I sold my MX5 because I wasn't using it much and it was a lot of money just sitting outside, but now I am thinking that I probably should have kept it!
I am intrigued what you found wrong with Honda? I think they are having a problem with the 1.5 turbo and oil dilution but that is in the recent CRVs.
One of the reasons I like my wife's CRV is it has a 2 litre petrol engine mated to a torque converting automatic gearbox. I have driven two cars with a CVT and didn't really like them as much.
I think Mazdas are quite good because unlike other manufacturers they have avoided the small turbo petrol engine mated to a CVT, and they produce cars that drive well.

I never got used to the 3 Door RAV4 I had. It was very nippy but the ride was just so choppy I thought. I put this down to being a SWB, but my Honda HR-V was tall and a 3 door so maybe worn shocks? Still totally loved the looks of them though

I know Honest John website has to be taken with a pinch of salt but they had a list for both the HR-V & CR-V models. And yes my car does take some beating as well screwed together product....maybe I would be disappointed with any other car sadly even the RX Lexus model are not without their faults ☹️

The original Duellers were appalling. Changed them to a new set of Cooper's and the ride was transformed.

Couple of neighbours have opted for these VW Sharan / Transporter type things, and having spoken to one at length, I am really taken by them myself. Lack of 4WD would be a deciding factor though. Their 5/7 seat format very quickly folds down to a truly massive load area.......you wouldnae believe the amount of crud wan wee dug needs when we go travelling.......lol.

There is a a 4WD version of the Transporter - 4 Motion. Might be a bit too big and they are expensive but hold their value better than any Toyota.
