My wife bought me a Garmin 45 dashcam for Christmas and I've since bought a 'hard wire' parking mode cable kit for it as I'd like to have it permanently wired. The question is , How best to wire it in as I need a battery live, earth and ignition live ? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I was checking in the headlining earlier by the interior light with a meter looking for an accessory live and whilst checking out a small two pin plug , managed to blow a 10A fuse...... I only discovered this when I needed to nip out in the Rav and discovered the brake warning and ABS warning lights illuminated and none of the gauges or the drivers electric window , or indicators worked...

Those 'piggy back' connectors are similar to the Nextbase hardware kits Jase. Should be fine I would think.

Just be careful as no matter what they say I suspect they are not UK based I ordered something from a seller 5 day delivery, 4 weeks it took to come straight from China, sp be prepared for a long wait. That is one of the many problems with Fleecebay you never know if they are genuine UK or not, not that I mind buying direct from China, but if I order it on 5 days delivery it better not take more than 7.

I'm sure you're right , I've ordered two lots of what I need now from eBay as I discovered the first order was from China. I looked in Halfords this morning for 'fuse taps' but couldn't see any..

Yes, they would work. I used the Nextbase kit, wired up the A pillar behind the trim and across the screen and came out right by the rearview mirror.

This is the fuse box layout by the drivers knee. ode to a tree poemUsing fuse taps I tapped into a permanent live and an ignition switched live. I put the earth to a spare hole on the pedal box using a speed nut and self tapper. And this is the fitted and working camera..

Little update on this. I left the camera recording in ‘parking mode’ for two weeks, that’s continually on and recording when movement is detected. Having not needed the car for the last two weeks I thought I ought to give it a run yesterday and the battery was flat ! On checking the library in the camera, it contained 185 parking mode videos for the past week , all bought on by nature , be it the wind blowing nearby trees or the rain. I charged the battery over the weekend and altered the programmed recording times on the camera and by browsing several dash cam forums i discovered that if you remove the lid on the box which is part of the ‘parking mode cable’ you can alter the voltage at which the camera will stop operating in parking mode , therefore preventing a flat battery. It’s factory set to disconnect the power supply to the camera at 11.7 volts so I moved the ‘link’ to the 12.3 volt position and I’ll see how things are after another week. It has the option to be fitted to a 24volt vehicle too. It might be that I need to renew the battery on the Rav..?
This is the box which is part of the ‘parking mode cable’.

I'd suspect a local sparrow with a grievance..... have you refilled the birds feeding box recently? What brand did you use?
