....for our 2003 Toyota Estima.
Engine light came on the other day, I tried to cancel it with my OBD reader, but for some reason, it would not connect to car.
So I took it to the local garage in the village. He cancelled it for £30, but it came back on again.
So they have said it's the O2 Heater sensor Bank 1 and both need to be done, as sometimes it's difficult to pin point the exact one that's failed !!!
It will be a hours labour at £45 + vat and £339 + vat for the two sensors.
I don't know much about this, I'll spend some time on Google and YouTube over the weekend and I will take it to another garage for a second opinion and price.
If it is the sensors, surely it's worth just getting one done and if the engine light comes on again, I'll get the other one done.
Any advice much appreciated.
Thanks
Bobby

If it is coding just one of the sensors then if you swapped them over and the EML goes out, you know that just one of the sensors needs to be replaced. If it comes on again then both are U/S?
I know that our indie BMW guy did this with a Vanos sensor on our daughter's 118i and was able to confirm that just one sensor was gone. But the VANOS sensors on her car live in a pretty wholesome environment and are easy to remove and I guess the only possible problem would be that exhaust sensors can be difficult to remove let alone re-fit......

That's a common fault on the MR2 MK3 car, does it have the 1.8 petrol engine in the Estima, on that car they are different so you can't swap them over but only because of the length of a cable I think. Sorry but it's been a while since I played with them but a search on the www.mr2roc.org/forum/index.php may get you more information. I do know they always say don't buy cheap buy good known make ones, but £339 + vodka seems expensive.

A local mobile mechanic has been recommended, so he is popping round tomorrow morning. Obviously £45 for a diagnosis, which I expect to get deducted should he carry out the work.
I'll be armed with all your advice and tips, if he tries it on or is anywhere near a garage rates, he will be shown the driveway gate 😄

Mechanic has been and has told me that the O2 Heater Sensor Bank 1 (the one on the right, not the left) needs replacing and showed me which one.
They are easy to replace, a clip at one end, however I suppose I need a special tool to for the other end.
I'm going to try this myself and he is going to send me a link to the exact one I need.
So hopefully this is going to work out far cheaper than what my garage has quoted.

It will depend on access, I have the 'special' socket but TBH they are pants, if you can get a ring spanner on after you have unplugged the connector that is the bast way, also give it a spray with Plusgas but only after you're not using it.

Access is very easy, as when I open the bonnet, the sensors are in full view at the front, with plenty of room around them.

Good quality ring spanner is your friend then, don't bother with special tools

Our 4.2 had a sensor replaced a few months back but the light came back on again. Had a new one fitted about 3 weeks ago and it’s come back on again. IIRC from the top of my head it was a cam sensor Not going to bother getting it changed again until it’s due it’s mot now as it doesn’t affect the car in anyway in terms of driving

One on order £69 + delivery.
Oddly that the two sensors are different prices. Luckily for me the one I need is the cheaper of the two. The other one is £169 which is what my local garage was quoting for each sensor.
