Hi Has anyone every removed / refitted the front seats on a Rav 4.2, the reason I ask is that the drivers seat has more adjustment than the passenger seat as you can change the height, now my wife (usually the passenger) has problems with her back and the added height is more comfortable, as I have a RHD drive car in France, I obviously have the opportunity to easily obtain a Drivers seat from a scrapped LHD car that I could put in the passenger side.
I was just wondering if anyone can spot any problems with doing this?

So long as the bolt centres are the same I can't see an issue Dave. Are the bolts welded under the runners as studs or do they simply pass through.

Never actually seen it happen, but was informed during a vehicle extrication course that under no circumstances were you to get between the seat / A Pillar / Dash and steering wheel to treat a casualty ... always always work from behind ... Let the Fire Rescue Crew make the damn things safe!!

Sounds a very sensible plan to me. However .... A differences I can think of ref the Airbags is I believe the Passenger seats have a sensor in the base to detect if anyone is seated there - hence why the seatbelt light comes on when you have a bag dumped on the seat. The drivers seat doesn't need that as if is assumed that seat is always occupied. So: 1) the seatbelt light (and maybe buzzer?) will probably always come on until the belt is clicked in, just like on the drivers side, regardless of seat occupation. 2) The SRS front passenger airbag will do either one of two things: a) ALWAYS deploy regardless of seat occupation as the car will always think the seat is occupied due to the seat wiring. b) NEVER deploy due to the wiring as it is different and a signal is missing.I suspect it will be the case of the airbag will always deploy (and maybe they always deploy regardless anyway?), but I think it is worth looking into this aspect. I think you have the earlier RAV4.2 without seat airbags? this makes it a little less complicated but probably want to match model types for ease of wiring connections under seat. Finally, the seat covers come off pretty easily so it wouldn't be much hassle to swap covers if you found one with a different trim.

Hi
Thanks for all your useful info, especially regarding airbags etc, for the moment the decision is to buy a wedge shaped cushion and see if that helps, before searching the scrap yards.
Very useful to know about changing the covers, trying to find one with the correct fabric might have been a problem, is the foam also as easy to change, obviously being a drivers seat it is likely to be well worn.
If I eventualy go down the seat swapping route I will update you on how I got on.
Thanks to all Dave

Another option you could consider ... get extended length bolts (hi-tensile ones of course) to replace the original ones, and some thick metal washer/plates to sandwich between the seat runners and the seat base (or seat base and vehicle floor if that would be a better option). That would get you the increase height and the seat would still look totally standard.
