Think the motoring press was very anti japanese/ European cars in the 70’s but it’s all about choice and British leyland was a poor and limited range .

Unfortunately, neither the British nor American manufacturers took the foreign competition ( esp the Japanese) seriously until it was way too late. Hence no indiginous UK car manufacturers anymore and the biggest selling cars in US are Japanese and German.

My dad has the same colour Datsun 120Y as in the YouTube photo. Before this he had a 1600E. The heater in the 1600E barely used to warm up but the Datsun it was like an oven in comparison

My late father only bought British until I showed him a Nissan sunny top spec and he was smitten 😎 Yes my Dad was the same until he noticed other people where he worked were buying Datsuns and they were very reliable! I thought I had posted earlier but can't see it, I also had a Datsun 120Y which looked, to me, very smart in white and I really enjoyed driving it for a number of years.

Honda built their success in the motorcycle industry based on a 4 cylinder engine designed by a British engineer who couldn't get BSA/Triumph/Norton to even look at it.
