Driving home last night, hundred yards from home, stopped at the bottom of what passes for a hill round here to let a bus through, pulls off, and there was what I can only describe as a slight 'pop' followed by a quiet whiney whistle. ...Bit of smoke out the back, not excessive or for particularly long. Got up the hill no issues, no lack of power, but I don't use the right foot excessively (It's a 20MPH zone after all). Whiney whistle increases in pitch with engine revs, Pulled over to side of road outside house, has a look round while engine idling, no excessive smoke out the back, just that quiet whistle.
I'm thinking turbo fault ... In which case I have 900 miles left on the extended warranty, so I guess it's round to Mr Toyota and see what they say. I really hope it's not a seal or exhaust, as I'm planning on replacing the car in Feb.

No sign of any loose hoses, and no MIL light or codes stored Booked in at my local Mr Toyota for tomorrow, who wasn't exactly forthcoming with a possible cause ... Need to do Diagnostic check, Road Test etc. ... Well start it up and press the noisy pedal you don't need much more of a test than that to hear the noise!! Did notice some oil next to one of the plug thingies on top of the cylinder head though while I had the cover off

If it had been a hose I would have expected a performance drop, once replaced a radiator on a Xantia, had to take the turbo hoses off to pull out the rad with the intercooler, hadn't tightened the hose up correctly & whilst doing 60 down the M1 it came off, I thought the engine had gone, the drop i performance was very noticeable.
