Anyhoow heer is a quicky piccy of the Rav which looks midnight blue in this piccy. It need a good clean and polish so when I have done that I will post some better piccys Crumbs Paul, it looks as though you've already given it the treatment! What a cracking looking motor, as you say, pity Toyota lost their way with this sector of the market. One of my neighbours had an identical car when they first arrived here ( they have a 2016 model now ) and, looking back, it was what attracted me to the RAV in the first place.

Congratulations! Looks very good! (Just add a tow bar...) Thanks for the comments everyone Oh yes I forgot about that good job I didn't get round to selling the trailer. I have also now booked it in at the local Toyota for an MOT next month just to see if all is ok with it as I am no mechanic and usually take my mate along with us to look at the car we'd be buying to check it over but he wasn't available, but it sounded and looked ok from what I could make out??

OK well since picking this Rav up we haven't had much chance to talk about until last night and seems that Mrs P wants to only use it for six months of the year November to April so only taxing it for those six months and occasionally using the Yaris still also in the winter months. So is it worth doing that and can we get insurance to cover those six months or will it have to be for the twelve months does anyone know?? I've been getting quotes on line but all for twelve months no mention of six months on any of em?? Also the Rav will be kept outside once it is taxed and insured so any tips on keeping it in good condition from the elements???

In any event I would have thought that a 6-month policy wouldn't earn any NCD so it would apparently always be a prohibitive premium. Also, is there a risk from fire or theft even if you are not using it? A household policy won't cover a vehicle if it were, say, to catch fire in the garage or on the drive should the house go up. I know it's a draconian example and will hopefully never happen but insurance is a distress purchase to cover against things that you hope will never happen.
I only use the bike now in the summer months so it is SORNed over winter but I still keep it insured just in case of theft, etc. Have you thought about one of the multicar policies such as Admiral or LV to cover both cars? We've used Admiral for the past couple of years and despite thinking in the past that such policies were a rip-off, they have proven to be competitive with separate policies, at least in our case with the Saabs.

I'd have thought multicar with appropriate low mileage consideration would be the way to go. Problem with SORNing is that the vehicle can't be driven in an emergency at short notice unless it can be quickly taxed online.

My buggy only gets used a couple of months a year, but it's insured 12 months, yes it could be stolen although it's doubtful, nobody would be that desperate. But it's down to costs as well, it's only about £110 a year so no point in not having it insured. Then I just put VED on it in the months I want to use it, put it on monthly instalments then put it off/om as I need it. If as you say you desperately need to go out, as long as you have Internet it can be sorted in 5 minutes.

You can't do nothing otherwise it's an offence. I guess if you need the car to be driven urgently, the only alternative is to tax online from SORN status. You would always risk one month's tax as DVLA won't refund parts of a month but online is quick and of course the car would need to be insured before taxing.

I also though cars need to be continuously insured now ☹️

Nope it can't have valid VED & no insurance but can have no VED & no insurance.
I have to say this is one of my big hates I've had up to 5 cars at once but obviously can only drive one at once, you ought to be able to buy insurance on a personal basis, you buy insurance up to a certain value of car or certain HP or whatever criteria they want to set them you can drive any car up to that.
