How can you tell if a bulb is a Nightbreaker or not?? Over the years I have bought these Nightbreaker Bulbs for various vehicles and taken the original bulbs out and put in the pack the Nightbreakers cam in for safe keeping. I *think* I have sometimes (depending on awkwardness of changing) taken out the Nightbreakers and swapped back when selling the vehicle ('cos I am mean ) So I have a few Osram boxes with pairs of Osram H1 bulbs in and I am not sure if they are the standard Osram Bulbs I took out the vehicle, or the Nightbreakers I later removed. Is there any code on the Bulb that tells you what model of bulb it is? In appearance, I have two sets that look just like the one in the Amazon listing, with the blue tip. Is the Blue tip typical of all H1 Bulbs though? I could fit them and do a before and after test I guess, but fitting them in the VW LT is not really easy, so would prefer to just mess around the once if possible (on the plus side, I thought my LT Camperbus was fitted with a pair of H4s, but when I was fiddling around swapping out the sidelights for some LED T10 bulbs I noticed there were two bulbs in each headlight! Running H1s as Dipped Beams and on Main, got both Dipped H1 AND the Main H1 lit up. Nice )

I think I can answer my own question ... Looked at the numbers embossed on the bulb base in more detail. All the bulbs say "H1U" which could be "Unlimited" except it is on ones I know are not. But some of the bulbs - the ones with the blue tips - have "NBU" at the end of another string. And I am going to assumes NBU stands for "Night Breaker Unlimited" (seems pretty logical?) So as I had two pairs of lights with "NBU" on them, replaced all the bulbs. Should be nice and bright when on Main Beam now, especially with a 324W LED Light Bar running on top as well

I've never come across any other bulbs with the blue tips so would assume that if they have blue tips they are Nightbreakers. The best feature of the Nightbreakers from my viewpoint is the very "white" light output, I'm running some of the GE bulbs in my dip beams at the moment and they are not "white" as the Nightbreakers.

Cheers. Good to have that visual confirmation . Not fully sure why I have two sets of H1 Nightbreakers? (I actually have a 3rd set still boxed up for the Corsa I got over a year ago but forget where I put them!) I've not driven with the new bulbs in place. In fact I can't recall for sure the last time I drive with the lights on! Must be the start of the year or even last year Think I need to take a drive late night and try them out - and the Light bar as well. Got that wired to come on with Main Beam - IF the Bar switch is also on, that is. The T10 LED lamps I fitted I think will be really good. They are bright enough to virtually double up as DRLs.

We've got to have some photo's of this!!!!! OK, bit of a Light Review ..... I haven't got any "Before" Pics, just the current updated situation This is my updated front lighting situation: New Bulbs by David, on Flickr A Pair of Superbright T10/5W5 LEDs to replace the standard sidelights. TWO Pairs of Osram NightBreaker Extreme H1 Bulbs for Dipped and Main Beam to replace the standard H1 Bulbs A Pair of Osram Chromed Indicator Bulbs. For appearance more than any other reason as the Indicator lenses are White and I wanted to lose the Fried Egg Look Fried Eggs by David, on Flickr Plus an 324W LED Roof Mounted Lightbar Clarence-Front by David, on Flickr Lighting Up TimeSidelightsThe original sidelights were not very visible at all. I don't drive with the sidelights on at dawn or dusk but I do think DRLs are a good idea during the day. The new T10 LED bulbs I fitted are not really quite enought to act as DRLs, but they are far more noticable than the old ones, so will be much better if parked up. These are just the sidelights on. T10 LED Sidelights by David, on Flickr But not enough to drive with when dark of course LT - Sidelights by David, on Flickr Dipped HeadlightsDipped is not bad - this is a pair of 55W Osram NBU H1s LT - Dipped Headlights by David, on Flickr Main BeamMain Beam on the LT is a pair of H1s set at Main Beam + the pair of H1s used for Dipped. So 220W of Halogen Osram NBU Bulbs LT - Main Beam by David, on Flickr The Full MontySwitching on the LightBar so it comes on with the Main Beam shows a bit more of the road LT - Beam + LightBar by David, on Flickr This is 220W of Halogen + 324W of LED Pretty Effective there I think. Not sure if I need to set the Lightbar differently yet. The reason I wanted the Lightbar is due to the local roads I drive on. The road I am at the side of taking these pictures is actually a normal road I drive on and is signposted, it's not a deadend road to nowhere. And when dark there is loads of local wildlife - mostly hares and pheasants, but also Deer, Badgers and Foxes. Is it legal to use on the road? No. But I will use the light on these kind of roads and not on the main A roads (usually, but will maybe on some stretches) And finally a bit of video on the drive home to show the differences
