Hope you guys can help . Have Rav 4 2.0 D-4D XT-R 3 Door, 55 plate.
Benn having problems with stick clunky gearbox - worse in winter?? Occasionally having to shove to get into gear. Yesterday noticed 3rd problematic- had to go from 2-4 to avoid it as wouldn’t go in. Then when attempting to change up to 3rd - wouldn’t go in gear at all - loud grating noise every time tried any gear - undriveable. Recovery thought might be something to do with clutch (which was replaced a couple of years ago). Garage who I don’t have much faith in - thinks might be gear box and is going to replace- think it’s likely to be gear box but is there anything else that it could be - don’t want to pay for something that isn’t going to correct problem.
Also, I’m from Leicester does anyone know anyone close by who specialises in Rav???
Thanks in advance

Hello Dot and welcome. Might be worth a peek in the arhives at the top of the page in black, as i'm sure there were older posts about troublesome gearboxes on the Ravs??

Also might be worth getting the oil in the box, drained & refilled up to the correct level, always a good start

Definitely the best starting point. Make absolutely sure you get the correct grade of oil as an incorrect one can cause the symptoms you describe. RAV's are very sensitive to the grade of oil in the gearbox. From memory, straight EP90 won't work.
