I try not to use the air con if I can but last couple days I have been using it. On the 4.3 when it starts off for the first few seconds it’s blowong like these white bits of sand from the vents does it every time when you start up. Air con itself is fine ice cold as can be. The 4.2 is ice cold too but that doesn’t blow anything out of the vents apart from ice cold air. Is this an issue that might be brewing to happen or just lack of use? Definitely not dandruff 😳 Attachments:

When was the last time you changed the pollen filter? It's important that you clean out the filter housing because they can accumulate leaves, bugs and other debris. Maybe that's what is being blown out? Another possibility is that the seals in the system have dried out and are starting to break up if the aircon isn't used regularly.
Personally, I never turn the aircon off. You need to run it regularly to make sure that the refrigerant circulates as it contains a lubricant that keeps the seals in the system moist. Otherwise they dry out and eventually the refrigerant escapes rendering the aircon U/S. The aircon also keeps the interior of the car dry so you don't get condensation in autumn/winter.People often don't use it because it does increase fuel consumption but having to re-charge or repair the system is going to outweigh any fuel savings IMHO.

I have the aircon set on auto at a temperature that is comfortable to me and leave it so 365. That way I'm warm in winter and cool in summer. Still not sure that I have convinced Mrs Davrav that auto is the quickest way to achieve the desired temperature and that the system will cool or heat faster if extremes are not selected.

The filter was changed at the last service inn october. I do usually run the auto control and the a/c light is on even when blowing warm air ou but I’ve never used the air on before usually in hot weather just turned everything off and had windows open this is the first time I’ve actually used it as it’s so hot. I’ll check the pollen filter in case it’s got bunged up. Cheers both

Good idea. You can be surprised just how shitty they can become even after a fairly short spell. If you regularly park under trees at this time of year, the vents under the bonnet can get covered in all sorts of rubbish which then finds its way into the ventilation ducts/pollen filter housing. I have to clear the convertible's under-bonnet every week as my daughter parks it under trees at work.

My AC is on year round. Just set at about 21C and auto. It does the rest.

As well as changing the pollemnb filter, I use one of the Air-Con Cleaner Canisters once a year on the cars to keep the system fresh. at £10 a pop I think it is worth while.
(not done the Vauxhalls cleaner yet actually!)

Managed to find where the pollen filter was. Yeah it was quite bunged up really surprised as it was changed 8 months ago but yes it’s usually parked under a tree so that explains that. Thanks again. Hoovie, have you got any links to the canister you mentioned?
