I have to say I think the way the various car makers have handled this airbag recall is terrible.
How many million of airbags have they fitted to brand new cars while owners of their previous models have been driving around waiting for replacements?

How many million of airbags have they fitted to brand new cars while owners of their previous models have been driving around waiting for replacements? To answer my own question, since this recall was first announced, Toyota will have installed at a guess around 150 million Airbags in brand new builds (30,000,000 new vehicles in last 3 years with a likely minimum of 4 (drivers, passenger and sides) and up to 7 (+ front seats and knee)) Now if they diverted less than 5% of that airbag production to their existing customers ......

We received a letter from Toyota last weekend for the 4.2. Called our local dealer but they don’t have any in stock at the moment either. 🤬 you would’ve thought if it’s a recall they’d be prepared for replacing them. Let’s hope we don’t need it till then.

You might think so, but it was a Recall forced on them. Not sure why VOSA bother with mandatory recalls when the manufacturers can essentially ignore them for years and years. I bought my RAV4.2 Knowing it was part of this recall. I also sold the RAV4.2 6 months later and still waiting. Oh, sold it in 2015 and no doubt that car is still waiting for a new airbag.

Finally , it’s been done...! Nearly didn’t go ahead with it today though. My wife and I arrived at Listers Toyota in Stratford on Avon at the agreed time of 8.30 am this morning . We were warmly greeted by a smiling young lady and introduced to the ‘Service Advisor’, Mick. I told him that if it was ok we would wait in the showroom whilst the work was done , I fancied looking over the CHR that was on display anyway, didn’t mention that to the wife though... He then advised us that it could take up to five hours to do the recall work , I reminded him that it was only the ‘ drivers airbag ‘ and it was booked in for 8.30 so was surely the first job. At this point my wife and I were seriously considering re booking as we had made plans for the rest of the day and didn’t really want to change them. Anyway, Mick offered us a courtesy car which happened to be his own ‘Verso’ , so we thanked him kindly and went on our way, awaiting the call to tell us the Rav was ready. It wasn’t long before the phone rang and it was Mick to ask if we could please look in the glove box as he thought he had left his wallet in there..! Sure enough, it was there. (Numpty) At quarter past ten we had another call to say the Rav was ready for collection, so we could have waited..... So a very disappointing Toyota experience turned out not too bad in the end, if it hadn’t been for Mick lending us his own company car then a complaint would have gone to the dealership this morning for sure... God I’m getting miserable in my old age.....
