Hi all,
right this is really long winded but I will endeavour to keep it short.
I have a Toyota 2012 2.2D auto Rav 4, i have had since new and with no major problems … so I hit 120,000 and it all started to go wonkey, I broke down in august 2023 and was recovered home by the AA, the car went to a garage and I was told it was number 1 injector, I decided to replace all 4 as this was the first time it went wrong, this was done and the car was back on the road …… it lasted about 2 months before it happened again, recovered and off to the garage again, I was told that the injector 1 had failed again and they would replace it FOC as it should not have happened. Back on the road for a week and sod me it went again, back to the garage and they told me it was now a different issue, they kept the car for about a month and returned it to me saying they could not find the fault as the injector was fine ….. in my anger I sent it to another local diagnostic type garage and told them the story so far. The car was only firing on 3 cylinders and not number 1 … Once again they could not find the issue, even consulting a toyota technician, the car then came home and I once again had a mobile tech out for the day to find the issue …. No luck whatsoever ….
So basically now it sits on my drive and I wont be beaten, so I am now diving into the engine, scared as it is nothing like my Ford Capri which I rebuild a few times lol.
To this point I have managed to verify the glow plugs work, the injectors all work however I am not sure if number 1 keeps firing fuel and floods …
Compression is about right on all cylinders … no fuel pipes blocked and the fuel manifold seems ok and not blocked. Have checked all wiring to injectors and continuity is ok, exhaust thingy was cleaned out.
So … before I rebuild these bits back in should I look at anything else, I have not got a computer programme and OBD2 reader yet as I think that will be my next step. …..
I wont be beaten by this even at my age
PS I couldnt find the points lol
