Question, the Rav4 I just acquired has been sitting for two years. I am contemplating draining 3/4 of a tank of gas out and putting fresh gas in. Is there any alternatives to this? Than putting marvalest mystery oil in the tops of the cylinders and letting it soak for a day. Opinions welcome.

Hello Carl and welcome to the club 👍🏻I take this is a petrol/gasoline engine ? If it was me I would do a few things …take the fuel pump out the tank , one to inspect that and get a look inside at the tanks condition. See link to fuel pump removal….. I would also see if the engine turns over by hand (socket/spanner on crank bolt), if it turns over fine you need to think about checking the condition of the rubber timing belt before starting.

If it is VVTi petrol, it’s a chain. The diesel’s had a timing belt.😊

Had to look up marvalest mystery oil 🤔

Dunno if just putting an octane enhancer in the tank would help? Worth checking the pump, and there should be a fuel filter somewhere.
Whats the mileage and any service history?
