A friend … Well an acquaintance more like has a 15 or 16 plate Hybrid which he never stops complaining about. His MPG is low 30s at best. Is that normal ? I know the kind of use makes a difference but low 30s sounds low ?? sort of why iam enquiring really. 1.7 tons of vehicle takes a bit of shifting. well compared with the 4.2 thats good ....lol... iam getting 20's in town ! The Honest John Real MPG figures are 44 mpg for the 2WD and 42 mpg for the 4WD versions of the 4.4 hybrid. For the 4.5 they quote 50.4 mpg for the 2WD and 48.7 mpg for the 4WD. (I get around 45 mpg)

Fair enough. Maybe the doors open really wide on the IQ ? I know the CRV is good front and rear for getting in and out because they open to 90 degrees. I think because we are all different the only way to know what's best is to try the different cars we like the look of. As an aside, I still like the MX5 but I think my wife would struggle getting in and out of one these days and she has to be very careful with bending. I realize that it probably seems perverse to say that the IQ is more accommodating than the Aygo given that the former is a smaller car; AFAIK it started life as a Kei car in Japan with a 660cc engine to comply with the regulations for that type of car but then they fitted the 1.0L and 1.3L engines for the European market. The rear seats are really only suitable for little kids (or legless adults 😳) but as a two seater, it’s very spacious. I’ve got problems with my left leg (new hip next month) and it’s almost as easy getting into the IQ as it is to enter the RAV. As I said, the Aygo comes a close second but strangely I’ve found the Yaris X way too cramped in the driving position which is a pity because I was thinking of one to replace the RAV. I'm sorry to hear about your leg and hope the hip replacement goes well next month. My oldest son lives in Japan and he has been talking about getting a Kei car recently so I have been looking at a few reviews!

I’ve had my first pre-op and there’ll be another a week before. I’ll be glad to get it done as the pain is getting progressively worse and it’s starting to make me ill as well. It’ll also get me out on the bike more. Just hope there’s enough of the summer left by the time I’m recovered. 😳

She has had three MRI scans and has twice had injections into her facet joints. It seems to really help but then she moves in a slightly different way and is back in pain. We see a consultant anaesthetist privately because we were getting nowhere with the NHS unfortunately. Listen to your body and don't be in a rush after the op but I wish you every good fortune with the recovery.

We see a consultant anaesthetist privately because we were getting nowhere with the NHS unfortunately. Listen to your body and don't be in a rush after the op but I wish you every good fortune with the recovery. I can imagine the pain your wife’s going through. I’ve had a few incidents and accidents over the years that have primarily impacted my back and consequently I’ve had back pain to some degree virtually all the time. I’ve learned to live with that but for the last few months in particular the hip has sometimes driven me to distraction. My big problem is that I can’t stand taking painkillers and the like so instead I rely on stuff like Voltarol which is pretty effective but you can’t use it long-term. Also it’s meant that I’ve not been able to get out on the bike because at times it feels as if my left leg is going to give way and that’s just a bit off- putting when you use your left leg to keep the bike upright at traffic lights whilst keeping the brake on with your right foot. It’s especially problematic when dealing with a hill start. So I will be pleased to have the op done. Many thanks for your good wishes. 😊😊

Does anyone know where the Yaris cross is built ? I’m guessing it’s Europe as the Yaris Hybrid is built there … Is that model shared with Mazda like the Yaris is ?
Cheers

Cheers I don't think the Yaris Cross is shared with Mazda. Funny thing this car buying - after saying I would in the future buy a Honda Jazz hybrid I am having second thoughts after reading of someone having a problem with one just out of warranty and as well as the expense the part won't be available until March so he has an undriveable car. I am now thinking that maybe the Aygo X that I said was too small may be the one to go for as it's just petrol!

As Chris says the Yaris Cross for European consumption is built @ TMMF, Onnaing near Valenciennes.
There was some **** on another forum that claimed that European models were built in Japan, as the Cross VINs start with a letter "J".
This doesn't mean they are built in Japan, it just indicates the country of origin of the Company.
You have to get about 10 positions or so (I forget exactly how many) into the VIN and the letter/digit at that position is a code for the particular manufacturing plant. For the Cross, that code matches the Onnaing plant.

Went to look at a white Yaris today as we were over that way. It’s at a Ford main dealers. Just rolled up unannounced but they were fine with us taking the car for a drive…. No go though. Battery dead. No real surprise as like Jase says the internet is full of stories about owners trying to get batteries replaced under warranty.
When I sat in this particular car it felt cramped and with its very dark seats a bit claustrophobic….. It was the base Icon model if that makes any difference By the time the sales fella found a jump starter we’d gone into the showroom and was checking out a 22plate Puma Hybrid. Of course the Puma is a bigger car and direct competitor to the Yaris Cross ( They also have a grey Yaris cross at Ford Worcester ) Anyway the Ford just felt that much nicer. Big wide comfy seats and tons of equipment……
We didn’t bother driving the Yaris cos my wife was cold and in pain so we just left it…. Not at all sure if it’s right for us size wise. The IQ has far more space up front than the Yaris. It’s spacious up front more so than my mates Mondeo but of course it doesent have a back.
Really really like the Yaris on the outside but that particular car not on the inside. Icon has the dash from the previous generation and hell it felt old and dated especially compared to the Puma. The Design and up have a much updated dash and instrument cluster so I imagine much better. I think a pano roof would help the interior of Yarises with near black seats. But that’s a rare option.

Toyota GB seems to be run by folk with zero imagination. Nearly all the Toyotas that are imported to the UK have dreary black interiors. Only our LC150 came with an ivory leather interior which was really nice as it lifted the ambiance of the car. Apparently in the US for example you get a choice of interior colors. I remember when we bought our first 4.2 in Paris the salesman presented us with a folder full of different coloured leathers and cloths for the interior. Certainly I’d go for a different colored interior in the RAV if I had the option. You’re right about the pan roof, Charlie, it makes the inside of the car so much brighter when it’s open. 👍😊

If the Yaris is not for you, it's not for you ... it wasn't for my wife either! We took a new Yaris for a test drive - it's a great car but when we got back, she just said 'no'. Maybe it was the size, maybe it was a 1.5 hybrid after driving a 2.0 diesel but either way, it wasn't for her.
The 2.0 C-HR was though - she's very happy with her C-HR.
As chance would have it, we've swapped cars for this week - she has the RAV4 while I have the C-HR. My RAV4 has a light grey headlining; the C-HR has a black headlining and a rather smaller, less airy cabin, and feels 'claustrophobic' by comparison. But while I'm actually driving there's very little to choose between them - you just get used to the ambiance of the cabin.
